2 $HEETS-SHEET 2- r a v y /i' EDWARD s. ANDERSON, or MABEL, MIN ESOTA;
ROAD DRAG. i
To all whom it may concern; I I Be it known that I, EDWARD S. ANnnRsoN, a citizen of the United States, residlng at Mabel, in the county of Fillmore and Stateof Minnesota, have invented certain newand useful Improvements in Road Drags,- of which the following is a specification.
. My invention relates to an improvement in road drags, and the object is to provide means for simultaneously adjusting J the;
blades or scrapers, andanother object is to provide a light, simple and inexpensive machine for road construction. I
With these objects in view, my invention comprises a plurality of blades or scrapers, either twoxor three bars extending lengthwise of the machine and pins pivoted to-the bars andto the blades and means for simul-' taneously tilting the several blades.-
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a plan View.
Figure 2, is a perspective view.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentaryv view in rear elevation of the left-hand rear end;
Fig. 4 is a section on line 44 of Fig. 3.
The numerals 1. 2 and 3, represent blades or scrapers, the blades'or scrapers 1' and 3,
extending parallel with each other, and the blade or scraper 2, preferably inclined in the opposite direction as shown in Fig. 1 to throw dirt from one sidetoward the center where it iscaught by blade 1.
The blades or scrapers have brackets 4, ex-
tending forwardly and arranged in pairs one above the other. there being th ee of these preferably on the'front and'rear scraper blades 1 and 3 and two on the intermediate scraper of blade 2.
Rods 5 extend upwardly through these brackets and are pivotally connected to the channel-bars 7 and admit of the blades turn the blades form the frame work of the ing thereon as hinges, the rods having a site end these rods are pivoted to the channel bars 7. which extend parallel with one an other longitudinally of the track and with grader.
At the center of the drag, rods 8 are employed. These are like rods 5, but longer,
and instead of-havinga single channel-bar pivoted to them, there are two channel bars spondingly. tilted.
17 and '18, one above the 'other'and parallel i Specification of Letters latent. Patented June. 20 1922; I. Application filed. September 20,1919. seriaino. 325,188. Y 5
with each otheigandpivoted at their ends to the upperends of the rods',8 by pins or rivets 13, as shown in F ig.- 2.3 'Ahand-lever 9 is pivoted to each of these channel-bars 17iand 18 by means of pins or rivets 19, andthis handle-bar carriesaspring-actuated latch c 10 which operates in connection with a segment 11 secured to the upper channel-bar The lower end of the hand-levertermi nates in 'a pintle' corresponding-t0 oneof the rods 5 extending through a bracket. 4011, the
. back of blade 2, and having head6" on its lower end. By swinging the hand-lever; all three blades are simultaneously and corre-.
.A brace-rod extends'from the channel-bar l8 tobar 7 and engages an opening 13. therein. I i
The rear end of the rear. scraper or blade isprovided with an'adjustable lextensionil l,
pivoted thereto and provided with-a spring latch 15- for holding it indifferent positions,
in that way causing the blade to scrape --de'eper"or shallower as desired at that point according to the adjustment, the lower; edge of the blade being cut away-as at 16, for this purpose. By means of this adjustable extens on. the soil is distributed over the wheel tracks. in order to make a firm road bed.
I claim.
. I A roaddrag including end bars substantial parallelism. a ,pair of parallel blades tional pair of bars one spaced above the other in the center of the drag; rods pivoted to both i i of said last-mentioned. bars at their ends,
and connected with said blades, an additional blade located between the. parallel connected with each bar of said pair ofba-rs,
and means for holding the handle in afdesired position-respecting said pair ofjbars,
the whole so arranged'that oscillationofv I said handl about said pivots varies thefan gle of each of the blades simultaneously.
In testimony whereof I afli rmysignature.
