Be it known that I, JAMES. WILLIAM CLEGG, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Soho Iron Works, Oldham, in the county ot Lancaster, England, have invented new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Combing Machines (for which he has obtained `Letters Patent ot Great Britain, 105,035, application tiled October 111, 1916), ot' which the following is a specifi'- cation.
My invention relates to improvements in and relating to combing machines which have attached a pneumatic appliance such as the aspirator described in the specification to Boths lBritish Patent No. 5124 of 1907 (U. S. Patent No. 905,233) tor removing the waste from the combing cylinder brushes.
In such machines I have found that there is a tendency for the internal stationary roller or slotted tube which is in communication with the exhaust fan or aspirator to become choked or clogged with accumulated waste sucked by the draught of air through the pertora'tions ot the outer rotating tube or screen and to the slot in the inner stationary tube.
Hitherto it has been diiiicult to clear out and remove this obstruction, and my iniproveinents consist essentially in the provision oi means for enabling` the inner sta tionary roller or slotted tube to be cleaned out and the accumulated waste removed readily and quickly.
I will describe an embodiment ot my in vention with reference to the accompanying two sheets'ot` drawings in which Fig. 1 is a back elevation, partly sectional, and Fig.2 an end sectional elevation of part ot a combing machine fitted with an aspirator to which my improvements are shown applied.
In these views-oi designates the pipe or trunk in communication with the tan or aspirator; Z) vthe usual stand or frame; c the inner stationary roller or slotted tube; d the outer rotating perforated tube or screen; e e the gears .and e2 the sprocket wheel by which the tube Z is rotated by a chain, not shown, from the lap roller; f the brush casing and g the brush which clears the waste from the needles on the combing cylinder 7i. and z' the detaching roller.
The drawing shows the aspirator trunk connected to two cleaning or waste removing heads so that the tubes c d, gears c c, sprockets e2 and remaining parts g 7i and i are in duplicate.
All the foregoing parts are ot the'usual construction and operate in the known ina-in ner well understood.
For the purposes of my invention I support each inner roller or slotted tube c concentrically within its outer tube Z and dispense with the usual shaft ruiming longitudinally from end to end ot the two inner tubes 0.
In the embodiment illustrated I show the inner tubes c supported at their outer ends by rings j carried in bearing brackets j* having feet j adjustably connected by bolts ,7c to slotted bracket Z. The inner ends of the tubes c are connected b v rings fm each with a cross arni and boss m to the ends of a short shaft n carried in a central boss or bearing p supported adjustably on the traine. Consequently by adjusting the bearing brackets jX with the rings j and the central bearing p the inner tubes c can be set and maintained in true alignment. At its outer end each inner tube c is provided with a detachable cover g having an inspection lid g through which the interior oi the tube c can be in spected from time to time and when required the covers Q or either ot them can be taken oft and the interior oi3 the tubes cleaned out and accumulated waste removed readily and quickly.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is l. In a combing machine, the combination ot an inner stationary tube and an outer rotatable tube, and an aspirator in communica tion with said tubes at one end thereof, the outer end ot said inner tube extending beyond the outer tube and provided with a detachable cover. v
2. In a combing machine, the combination oit an inner stationary tube and an outer rotatable tube, the inner tube extending at one end beyond the outer tube and supported iiidependently thereof, the supporting means for the inner tube being adjustable radially ot the outer tube.
