These recesses 17 are provided with liners 18 of rubber, leather or other suitable elastic materiah which Aform gaskets or packing rings to snugly embrace the pipesection 6 and coupling 7 to prevent any leakage of oil from the4 receptacle 13 when theV receptaclesections' are'closed. r1`he receptacle 13 provided for receiving the oil ydraining from tlie rsection 6 and superposed section of the well tubing when said sections are def tached 'from the coupling the oil thus rbeing recovered and falling by kgravity from the receptacle 13 through the by-pass 9 into the casing head andbaclrinto the well. The movable receptacle section 15y may be held closed against-the iiXed receptacle section 14' and the tubing by a tight fitting connection between said receptacle sections or any suitlable type of fastening may be employed to secure the free edges of the receptacle sections 14: and ltogether.
` n the operation of the device, assuming e that the oil saver is mounted in proper posi- -tion'for use, the cover section 15 vof the oil receptacle is swung open, the tubing pulled up and the'elevators and coupling tongsapplied, yand the cover section 15 of the receptacle 13v swung to closed position vabout the upper adjacent tubing section 6 and 'upper' end of the properly positioned coupling col .lar 7 uniting the same to the underlying tubing section 5.- The tubing section 6 and the superposed tubing section remaining coupledv thereto'are then iinscrewed from the coupling 7 and drawn upward through the top of the receptacle 13, the oil contained therein thereby flowing into the receptacle 13.j This oil discharges through the `by-pass, as
previously'fdescribed, and upon the icompletion of this operation the casing section 15 is again swung open, the tubing again elevated to bringmoie sections into position While I have, in theKL present instance,
shown the oil dischargey or by-pass pipe 9 connected with the rcasing head 3 for drain-y ing the oil fromthe disconnected tubing back into the well casing, it .is to be understood that, while vthis rconstruction is preferred under some conditions, it is not absolutely essential to the invention. I. may, forinstanCe, and if desired,provide.any suitable means for the discharge'o'f the oill from the pipe 9 into a storage receptacle separate from and independent of the well casing,either f throughthe casing head?) and pipe or pipes 11 or` through other .suitable conductors, and therefore it is to be understood that my invention broadly comprehends theuse oit any suitable outflow connection from theicatch basin or receptacle to a storage tank or receptacle in which the oil 'from' the discon nected sections o1 the tubing is conducted.
Having thus fully described my invention, l claim: i
'In an attachment for oil wells, a cap provided in Vits sides with a pluralityoif openings, pipes secured in said openings, the said pipes being in communication with each v other, a receptacle having its axis in alinement with the axis of said cap, rigid tubing connected with the lower end of said receptacle and communicating with the said pipes,
the said cap being adapted to be, engaged yupon the casing of an oil well vand the said container tok be engagedfabout the oil well tubing.'
