Description

C. M. GEIGER.
MOTOR DRIVEN HANDSAW.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE2 3, 1920.

UNITED STAT-ES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES E. GEIGER,
FLYNN, or NEw'YoRx, N. Y.
' MOTOR-DRIVEN To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that CHARLES M. GEroER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Motor-Driven Handsaws, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to motor driven nate corresponding parts in each ofthe views 5 denotes a saw blade of any preferred type such as preference or necessity may dictate. This saw 5 is bolted to a tubular holder 6 by means of the bolt 7, the holder being screwed into or otherwise detachably connected to one end of a cylindrical plunger '8, operating in a barrel 9 the other end of the plunger being connected to a pitman 10.
The barrel 9 is supported upon one end of a plate 11, or bracket, the other end of which is bolted to an electric motor 12 by means of bolts 13. This motor is formed with a handle 14 to facilitate carrying the device and also for the purpose of properly positioning the sawblade with respect to the piece of work to be sawed.
Mounted upon the driving shaft 15 of the motor is a pinion gear 19 in mesh with alarge gear wheel 16 mounted upon a short Specification of Letters Patent. 4 P t t -30, 2; p Application filed'June 23, 1920. Serial No. 390,991.
means of a pivot bolt 18. It will thus be i seen that rotary movement of the gear 16 c is converted into reclprocatory movement in,
the saw 5 when the plug and cord attachment20 of the motor is connected to the ordinary electric light fixture and the motor thereby placed in action. In actual practice the operator after connecting up his motor with a sourceof current in the manner barrel 9 with 'his'left hand and the handle 14with his right hand adjacent the guard or collar 21 carried by the barrel 9. The saw blade 5 can thus be moved to a vertical horizontal, or inclined position at will according to'the nature of the work.
From the foregoing it will be appreciated justdescribed grasps the that I have devised a conveniently operated' .andeificient portable saw and one which may be economically constructed and handled with safety. v v Having thus described my invention:
What I claimed is:
A portable saw comprising an electric motor having a plate secured thereto at its inner end, gearing-on said inner end of said plate operatively connected to the motor shaft, a barrel supported on the 'outer end of said plate, said barrel formed with a hand guard at its extremity. a plunger oper-' ating in said barrel and a pitman connecting said gearing with said plunger for recipro eating the same, and a saw secured to said plunger.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
CHARLES M. GEIGER.
