Be 1t known that we, Fnnn L. Manny and WILLIAM H. KEY, citizens of theIT nited States. residing atBenton Harbor, county of Berrien, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Compression Pumps. of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in compression pumps, particularly a pump adapted for filling tires.
The objects of the invention are:
7 First, to provide an improved pump actuating mechanism.
Second, to provide an improved compound compression pump.
Objects relating to details and economies of construction will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.

Considering the numbered parts of the drawing, the frame 1 is made up of similar symmetrical sides connected together by the cross bars 2 which are adapted to be secured to a suitable'base 3 or to the running board of an automobile.

It will be observed that as these pumpcylinders are carried on trunnions supported on the opposed symmetrical gear segments a parallel relation and movement is malntained when the pump handle is reciprocated back and forth. This obviates the necessity for any guides for these parts, permits of very simple construction and at the same time secures the most efi'ective action because on the high pressure the segment gears approach the dead center for each cylinder being acted upon, insuring the highest application of power with the minimum effort on the pump handle. The structure could, of course, be used effectively on single cylinders, but especially lends itself to com pound pumps as indicated, and we desire to claim the same broadly as a pump actuating means and also specifically in its relation to a compound pump. Having thus described our invention, Wh at We claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a compound pump structure, a frame with symmetrical sides, pairs of segment gears pivotally' disposed within the said frame and meshing with each Other arranged to rock through substantially 99f, pump cylinders disposed between one pair of said gears, the larger of which cylinders is trunnioned at the upper edge of said segment gears and the smaller one of which is trun nioned at the lower edge of said. gears, pis-v tons and piston rods with bifurcated ends extending from said cylinders to symmetri v cally opposed cross rods between the opposed gear segments, a handle centrally disposed between the said second gears and pivotally carried. on the said cross rods being retained in position by the bifurcated ends of said piston rods, a connection from the -main pump cylinder to the intake end of the secondary cylinder containing a suitable check,
and a connection from the secondary pump cylinder containing a check to the delivery hose. coacting for the purpose specified.
2.-In a compound pump structure, a
frame, opposed segment gears meshing with each other disposed to rock in said frame,
means for actuating the same, a main pump cylinder and an auxiliary pump cylinder trunnioned to one of said gears, with piston and piston rod connections extended and connected by cross rods to the opposed gear in symmetrical relation whereby the rocking of the gears will alternately 'compressvthe fluid in. said pumps, connections fromthe main cylinder to deliver to the intake of the auxiliary cylinder, and delivery connection from the auxiliary pump, coacting as specified.
3. In a pumpstructure, opposed meshing segment gears, a pump cylinder trunnioned to one of said gears with its piston and piston rod pivotal'ly connected'symmetrically to the opposed gear, and means for rocking the gears whereby the piston will be forced-to tion to each other, and suitable means for rocking the said gears, as specified.
