SAFETY-PIN CARD on PACKAGE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JINDfiIoH WALDES, a citizen of the Czecho-Slovak Republic, residing at Prague, inBohemia, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements 1n Safety-Pin Cards'or Packages (for which I have filed applications in Czecho-Slovakia, filed July 2, 1919, patented Apr. 20, 1920, No. 16,931; in Austria, filed June 23, 1920, and in Germany, filed July 9, 1919), of which the followingis a specification.
This invention relates to devices for holding and displaying safety pins. 1
It iscustomary to attach safety pins to a card or strip of paperby forcing the pointed members of the pins through the card or paper or through holes formed therein. This involves opening the pins and then closing them which takes considerable time, and furthermore when the pins are thus mounted one side member of each pin is for h the most part covered or concealed and as the other side member is free the pins will not lie evenly or flat on the card or paper, and thus their arrangement often becomes distorted or irregular. Furthermore, when detaching the pins from the card or paper it is necessary to first separate the points from the guards before the pinscan be with drawn. This also takes time and frequently the card or paper is torn or bro-ken during the operation so that some pins, which it was not intended to remove, are released.
' The object of my invention is to remove these objections, and this I do by providing a holder for the pins which is formed with openings into which the pins, without being opened or unlocked, may be readily inserted and from which they may be easily withdrawn. Preferably openings, holes or slits are so formed in the card or paper as to provide loops through which the pins are passed and which serve to hold the middle portions of the pins and other slits or openings are provided which form loops for holding the inner ends of the pins.
My improvements will be better understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows an elevation of a package of safety pins embodying my improvements,
the pack- ,The guarded end PAT O IC Specification of Letteiisp atent. v Patented May 30, 1 922, Application filed August 21, 1919. Serial in). 318,946.
The general shape of thepackagei's *oblong and the p i is folded form-a body.POrtionZ GOVQTB The Paper is also foldedatb to provideafold a which forms with the body the inner ends of the overlaps the fold a so that is closed the pins are all concealed.
In the fold a 1' form a series oflholes" e and partially-surrounding thejholes I form a series of curved slits f made in such mane for each pin. I In the body 7 portion of the paper r m vide a series of ner as to provide a series of loops 1 g, one
loops it. These are produced by forming slits z and semi-circular holes or openingsv m. In this way the loops are made more flexible and better adapted to receive the pins while being inserted. I i
A holder of the kind shown may be easily made and the mounted therein. It is not necessary to open or unlock the pins before being inserted, or

pins may be readily Each pin while being mounted has its iI 1-' Y ner or coiled end insertedin an openingm,
then passed under a loop h and then inserted into a slit f and beneath a loop 9. This operation may be quickly performed and when the her describedthey may be displayed in an attractive manner and the loops 9 and k.
exert such pressure or tension on the pins that they will always lie evenly on the paper and are not liable to accidentally move out of place. One or more pins may be easily with- H I drawn from the package without disturbing the others and without danger of breaking or tearingthe paper.
My improvements may be applied to holders made either of cardboard or paper and the package may be made without a cover if desired. While I preferably form the holes 6 to provide loops 9 andpreferably also use holes m instead of slits, very good results are obtained by employing slits in but when such holes place of the holes m, m are used they provide openings which facilitate the entrance of the pins the loops.
It will be observed by reference to Figure pin is held securely near itsmid-f I 3 that the dle portion and near its inner end. It passes beneath the loop h and through the slit f.

upper portion of the body while the middle portion of the pin is, held securely by the loop h. The inner portion of the pin is held by the loop 9 and the inner part of the fold 0.
While I have shown the guarded ends of tion to provide a pocket for the coiled ends of the pins, the body portion of the holder being slitted to form a series of loops through which the pins extend and the pocket portion being slitted to receive the coiled portions of the pm.
the pocket portion turned over upon the body opor-' 2. A holder for safety pins made of flexible material folded to form a cover, a body portion and a part'turned over upon the body portion to provide a pocket for the coiled ends of the pins, the body portion being formed with parallel slits to provide loops between them to receive the pins, and being formed with curved slits to receive the ends of the pins.
3. A holder for safety pins made of flexible material folded to form a cover, a body portion and a part turned over upon the body portion to provide a pocket for the coiled ends of the pins, the body. portion being formed with slits to loops and openings above the slits to receive the pins and the pocket portion being formed with slits and with openings below the slits to provide another series of loops to receive the ends of the pins.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name. a
