(GRANTED UNDER 'ri-IE rnovrsions or THE Aerox* Manci-t 3, i921, /ii s're'r. L., 131e.)
To all whom if may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO STAVENHAGEN, chartered accountant, a subject of the'King of Prussia, German Empire, and residing at Charlottenburg, near Berlin, Germany, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Letter Files or Registers, of which the following is a speciication.
The present invention consists ot' an iin.
According to the present invention there' will be also combined two known letter les to a rectangular form like a book but in such a manner that the second letter tile is fastened with its middle part to the edge ot the one cover or side part ot the first letter tile so that the filing bows ot both letter files are situated in the saine direction and parallel to eachV other if the whole letter tile is opened, and so that the letters or papers ot both letter files lie open in the same direction.
In closing the new letter le the second letter tile will be turned through an angle ot 180o and brought above the first letter tile and then the whole letter le will be closed by the free side part or cover et the first letter le. By this arrangement after opening the new letter le both piles ot papers or letters lie in the saine position near each other and after closing the new letter le an unintentional unclasping of the letter file is prevented.
It is preferable in order that the second letter tile may be turned above the lirst letter le to lengthen somewhat the wellknown bow or arm which presses upon the letters or papers and used to put back the papers or letters by turning it around the tile arches, so that one can grasp this bow or arm in order to prevent the turning over o' the leaves or letters of the second letter tile in opening the new letter tile.
The invention is illustrated by way of eX- aniple in the drawing: v
Fig. 1 shows the new letter file closed,
Fig. 2 is an edge viewk on a smaller scale ofthe letter tile when opened and Fig. 3 is a plan view ot the tile partly closed. v 'Y According to the present invention an or dinary letter tile consisting ot the cover c, middle or back part Z) and cover c with the usual tile arch CZ has a second letter file coinbined with it in such manner that the middle or back part e of this second letter file is hinged to the edge of the lower cover c of the first letter le. The second letter ile has only one cover f which constitutes a carrier for the le arch g of this letter file. To close the whole letter tile this cover f ot the second letter file must be turned over, so that then both tile arches lie opposite to each other and in opposite directions. The papers in both letter les will then lie above each other, the well known arms or bows 7L and e' pressing upon the papers.
The cover a of the first letter tile extends to the edge of the back part e of the second letter tile. It closed the new letter file has a rectangular cross section. lt opened both tile arches lie parallel and in the same direction near each other so that one can see the papers of both letter files in the proper position to be read. In order to 'facilitate the opening ot the letter le and in order to prevent the turning over of the papers ot the second letter ile it is preferable to lengthen the arm or bow z' of this letter tile so that it extends beyond the papers and the cover of this letter file as shown in the drawings. 1n order to obtain this effect this arm or bow z' has an extension l lying between the two parts ot the filing arch d oi' the first letter tile if the new letter tile is closed as shown in Fig. 3.
The present invention allows the adjustment of a lock, one part of a lock being adjusted on the outer side of the second letter file and the other part being fastened to the free cover a of the first letter le, so that the whole letter file after being closed can be locked.
1 claim:
1. The combination with a letter le comprising a portfolio having a ling arch therein, of a letter tile comprising a tiling arch7 and a carrier for the letter connected to the portfolio and adapted to be contained within the latter.
2. A letter le or the like comprising e port'olio, a tiling arch mounted on one ot the sides thereof, a second tiling arch, and a carrier for the latter connected to one ot' the sides of the portfolio and adapted to be folded within the lutter.
fr portfolio having e tiling arch mounted on its lower side, e hack portion hinged to the enter edge ot said lower side, a cnrrier hinged to said back portion and adepted to be contained between thesides ot' the portfolio, and a lingarch on said carrier adapted to lie between the carrier and one side of the portfolio.
4. A letter tile comprising a cover, a filing device mounted thereon near one Vend thereof, e carrier inhinged connection with the other end of Said cover and adapted to' be folded over hey letten-a lilingdevice on the carrier adjacent said hinged connection and adapted to 'be contained between the cover and carrier and a cover for the carrier connected to the ,first named cover.
5. A. letter iile comprising a cover, e tiling device mounted thereon neer one end thereot, a carrier in hinged Connection with the other endot' Said cover and adapted-to be folded over the latter, e liling device on the Carrier acent said hinged connection and adapted to be contained between the cover and carrier, and an arm connected with the carrier and extending-in the direction of the iree end of the latter. y
6. A letter iile comprising L cover, :i tiling device mounted thereon neer one end thereet, e carrier in hinged connection with the other end ot' said cover and adapted to be folded over the latter, a filing device on the carrier adjacent said hinged connection and adapted to be contained between the cover end carrier, end a. hinged arm connected with the carrier adjacent the tiling device thereon and extendingbeyond theV tree endo the carrier, for the purpose specified.
ln teetiinony whereof l have eiiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses. GTT@ STAVANHAGE VVitnesseS B. Tonnnnnnr, E. FRANTZ.
