The object of this invention is to provide a star which can be illuminated and used as an ornament for a Christmas tree, wreath or for a window display, etc.

Thisis made possible by the series orn triangular vdanges 5, 5 which are struck in near the edges ol the band l and project inwardlyi thereot. The socket l2 for the electric light is adapted te be placedon the under side ol the washer 7s ll and the light is threaded through the top of the washer into the socket so that the socket and the light clamp the washer ll between there, which in turn holds the socket and 'the light rigidly in place on the l5 base formed by the plate 8.
'lhe'base isheld in the openingP t by means of'the'anges 13 and let which depend from each end of the plate 8. Each oi these flanges has a shallow V shaped channel @il formed on the middle thereof. The cut away ends of the band l on each side of the open- ,ingI 6 is adapted to projectinto the V shaped channels on the base and hold the hase in place on the casing ol the star. The flanges te 13 and la slightly yield when the hase' is 'forced into the opening so that the cut away ends of the hand'can spring into the V shaped channel formed in the danges and securely hold the hase in place onthe cas1 tuV Y ing with the electric light thereol2 held rerti'J cally on the inside of the casing between the r'llers 3 and t. Besides the depending flanges 13 and lfr which are formed on the end ol the plate 8 a pair of upwardly projectingg;l triangular flanges are formed on each side of the plate 8. These latter flanges lill out the space between the plate 8 and the portion of the sides el the points of the star l between 'which the base is supported in order mi@ to shut off any light from within the star except that passing through the colored front and back thereof.
The fillers 3 and 4 are made up of colored paper and are transparent but it is understood that any other material such as glass, Celluloid, isinglass may be used instead of paper with the same or even better results.
The holes which are made in forming the triangular iianges 5, 5 from the band 1 form Ventilating holes around the perimeter near the front and back of the star. The air passing through these holes lreep the paper filler at each side of the casing cooled o and prevents a scorching of the paper filler by the heat generated by the incandescent light mounted on the inside of the star for the purpose of illuminating the saine.
As shown in Figure 1 the socket 12 may be surrounded with. a sleeve 15 having a pliable metal band depending therefrom. rThis band is adapted to be wound around the crown of the tree to stiflen it and at the same time support' the sleeve 15 and in turn the whole star at the extreme top thereof.
ln the upper point of the star is provided the opening 16 by means of which the star may be hung in the center of a wreath from above instead of being mounted on a stationary base and supported from below.
l claim:
1. In an illuminated star, thecombination of a metal band bent upin the form of a five pointed star, flanges on either side of said metal band, a series of lugs struck up from said band and bent up pointing in wardly of the star in a parallel row to and opposite of said anges formed on the outside of said band; opposite to each of said flanges formed on said band, a filler placed 4between said fianges and said lugs at the front and back of the star formed by sai'd band, a light supported on the inside of saidband.
2. In an illuminated star, the combination of a 'metal band bentup in the form of a star, flanges on either side of said metal band, .a transparentiller at each side of said band adapted te form. a casing with said band, a removable base supported between two points of said star formed by said metal band, said metal band having an opening therein at the point where said base is attached thereto, means on said base to clamp an incandescent light on the inside of said base and an electric socket on the outside thereof.
3. In an illuminated star, the combination of a metal band bent up in the form of a' frame of a star, said metal band having an opening'therein, a base, a downwardly projecting flange on each end of said base, said flanges having a channel formed therein, .an upwardly projecting flange at each side of said base, said base being adapted to have said angea on the end of said hase'engage iaidsee into the opening in said frame and support said base between the channels formed in said iianges, and have the flanges on the sides of said base engage 4the perimeter of said metal band and help to support the same on said base and prevent light from passing out of the star at the base thereof. e. ln an illuminated star., the combination of a metal band bent up in the form of a frame of .a star, flanges on either side of said 'I'` metal band, lugs struck up on the inside of said metal band opposite to said flanges, a transparent front and back held in place between said langes and said lugs, a base, an
