Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADOLPH Harman, a citizen'of the United States, residing at Louisville, in the county of Jefferson and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to a belt and more particularly to an article of this type designed for use as a waist belt.
The object of the invention is to provide means for concealing the free end of the belt after the latter has passed through the buckle.
A further object is to provide particular means for securing the buckle and permitting the free end of the stra or belt to enter an enclosing device formed y deflecting inwardly certain lateral extensions formed on the other end of the strap, these extensions being suitably connected.
A still further object is to provide in connection with the structure above indicated, means for connecting the extensions and comprising a strip of leather or the like slotted for the accommodation of the pivoted prong, if this type of buckle is used, the stri being preferably secured by stitching.
ith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of elements hereinafter described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a front view, the end of the strap or belt having been secured by the buckle, and the extreme end resting within the pocket provided for the purpose.
Figure 2 is a view showing, in perspective, the end of the strap to which the buckle is secured, the opposite end of the belt being broken away.
Figure 3 is a transverse section through the pocket portion of the belt.
Figure 4 is a longitudinal section.
Figure 5 is a detail view of the slotted end of the belt, in the form of a blank.
Figure 6 is a plan showing the manner of folding the blank and securing the parts together to produce the buckle carrying end of the belt.
The portion 10 of the belt is of uniform width, but that portion to which the buckle is attached is provided with side extensions 11 and 12, adapted to be folded under, so that the opposite edges approach each other but do not necessarily meet. This portion is slotted transversely, the slot being designated 14, and provides the entrance portion of the pocket for concealing the free end of the belt. The portions 15 are cut away at an incline as shown, and s uare corners 16 are provided, and likewise e ges 17 which abut the cross bar 18 of the buckle when the latter is in position. The buckle is designated 20, and in this instance is provided with a pivotally mounted prong 21, although any suitable type of buckle may be employed.
The end portion or tongue 22 is provided with a longitudinal slot 23 through which the prong passes. This end portion or tongue is folded alongside the extensions 11 and 12, sufficient play being provided to form a type of transverse 100 within which the cross bar 18 is accommo ated, the edge portion 17 acting to limit the movement of the cross bar, as indicated.
Particular importance is attached to the fact that the end portion or tongue 22 is connected with the side extensions by stitching, or similar means, providing a certain flexibility in this portion of the device. The two side lines of stitching are designated 24 and 25, and a transverse line of stitching is designated 26, the latter running parallel with the edge of the transverse slot, and serving to hold down the edge portion 27, in order to leave open the slot for the entrance of the free end of the belt. The ends of the transverse slot are deflected as shown and extend at an angle with the main portion of the slot, permitting the edge portion to be depressed between the folded portions 11 and 12, thereby facilitating the stitching operation and giving a finished appearance to the edge portions of the belt.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is bolt having side extensions, a tongue beyond the same and providing shoulders at the junction therewith, said side extensions overlapgying the belt body, said tongue overlapping the sideextensions to. form aljled v a flexible securing means extending throug the extensions and tongue so that the belt body will be flexible throughout, 3 buckleispose in said having a mounting'member loop and opposite said shoulders to directly engage the same to prevent contact with the 10 securing means.
