JOHN WYSOCK, OF PLYMOUTH, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-THIRD TO ANTHONY VISOTSKI, OF WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
resrnnnn ron MINE-CAR noons.
Specification of Letters'Patent.
Patented Mar. 1.4, 1922.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN WYsooK, a citlzen of the United States, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners for Mine-Car Doors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enableothers skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in fasteners for mine car doors and has for its primary object the provision of means that may be easily and conveniently operated when desiring to dump the car and which will positively lock the door so as to obviate the door accidentally opening when moving the loaded car from one place to another which is a frequent occurrence on cars now in use and causes considerable delay and expense both to the miner and operator.
Another object of this invention is the provision of. a minecar door of the above stated character, which will be simple, durable and efiicient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Vith these and other objectsin view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying draw- 7 ings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation, illustrating a mine car door with a fastener applied thereto and constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view illustrating the same,
Figure 3 is a top plan view illustrating the same.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 indicates a mine car body having side walls 2 that are provided with bearings 3 for rotatably receiving hinge or door supporting rods 4:. Doors 5 are located at the ends of the body between the side walls 2 and have secured to their faces straps 6 that project beyond the upper edges of the doors to form loops 7 that receive the rods 4;, whereby the doors are mounted for swinging movement so that the body may be easily emptied of its contents. The fastening means of the doors are identical in construction and reference to one is thought sufficient for both.
The door 5 is provided with an opening 18 over which is positioned wear plates 19 that are provided with openings that register with the openings 18. A locking bar 20 is pivoted at one end to the bot-tom wall of the body as illustrated at 21 and has an opening 22 formed in its other end. The locking bar 20 is adapted to extend through the opening 18 in the door 5 and a slidably mounted locking element 23 is adapted to pass through the opening 22 so as to firmly lock the door 5 against swinging movement. The locking element 23 is slidably mounted in brackets 24.- carried by one of the wear plat-es 19 and is pivotally connected to the operating lever 14 whereby upon swinging the operating lever 14, the locking element 23 can be moved into and out of engagement with the locking bar 20.
A cam shaped locking member or dog 26 is pivoted to the door 5 and when in one of its positions is adapted to engage the lever 14. and prevent pivotal movement of the lat ter in one direction which prevents the bolt 23 from being disengaged from the locking bar 20. I
The hinge rod 4 has one end bent to form a hook 25, the free end of which is received within a recess or socket 25' formed within one of the side walls 2 so as to prevent said rod from turningwithin the bearings 3 and also prevents said rod from becoming accidentally disconnected from the bearings by sliding transversely of the body and also provides a construction which will permit said rod to be manually removed from the body when desired.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is In combination, a car body having a hinged door provided with an opening to direction by engaging the upper guide a pivoted lever connected to the flattened end 10 of the bolt, and a cam-shaped member piv oted to the door and when in one of its positions adapted to engage the lever to prevent movement of the bolt in an'opposite direction. V I11 testimony whereof I efiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
