EMMA MARWEDEL, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN APPARATUS FOR CLEANING KNIVES, FORKS, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,932, dated July 15, 1873; application filed June 10, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EMMA MARWEDEL, of the city of Washington, in the District of Golumbia, have invented certain Improvements in Apparatus or Device for Cleaning and P01- ishing Knives, Forks, Spoons, &c., of which the following is a specification:
The object of this invention is to rapidly clean and polish knives, forks, spoons, &c., by placing them upon suitable pads and rubbing them with others, and by placing them between a laterally-sliding pivoted pad secured to a box or receptacle, into which the whitening or rotten-stone may fall.
The apparatus is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figure 1 represents the case or receptacle opened in perspective.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the pads for cleaning the knives. Fig. Srepresen ts the spoon and fork cleaners. Figs. 4and 5 represent perspective views of the pads upon which and into which the spoons are placed.
In the drawin g, A is a case or receptacle, the lower part of which is divided into compartments, a I) being the pads, upon which and into which the spoons are placed, respectively, upon their concave and convex surfaces when they are to be cleaned by the spoon-cleaners B, which are provided with a suitable handle filled with whitening or rotten-stone, and at their lower ends with a cork or other suitable pad, 0, of soft material. The cleaning or polishing material may be kept in the central part d of the caseor receptacle. In one corner of the lid A is secured the lower half D of the knife-cleaner, hinged to which is the upper half E, provided with a handle, 0.
The knives being placed upon the lower half, and the upper half being closed upon them, this is moved laterally back. and forward, by which the knives are very quickly and easily cleaned and polished. To clean and polish the forks, the wedge-shaped pad 0 is used, by which the prongs may be reached between them.
The whole apparatus is very simple and compact, and its value and utility can be very readily appreciated by all housekeepers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The receptacle A provided with the scourin g-pads a, b, and E, the said parts being constructed and arranged, relatively to each other, as shown and described.
