Be it known that we, ROY C. Hicr and EDWARD J. ONEinL, citizens of the United New York, respectively, have invented cerscribed and tain new and useful Improvements in an Auxiliary Window or Door, of which the -following is a specification.
This invention relates to a supplemental window or door frame to interchangeably receive storm sash and wire screens.
The object of the invention is to provide a single window or door frame, the panes or panels of which are interchangeable whereby 1t may be used equally well in connection with a storm glass or a screen wire panel so that said frame after once being installed may remain from season to season, glass storm panels being inserted thereinin the winter and wire screens substituted in the summer, one ybeing quickly removed and the other inserted from inside the building.

With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and despecifically pointed out in the claims. K

In the embodiment illustrated a window frame F of ordinary construction is shown with the outer or rear face of said frame.

Panels 14 are designed to be detachably 'mounted in the frame. 1 and may be composed of glass as herein shown or of screen wire 0r any desired material, said panels being provided around the edges thereof with binding protective frames 10.
The frame l0 as shown is substantially U- shaped in cross section and comprises laterally spaced side members 11 and 12 connected at their lower edges by a cross-bar 13 to form a seat for the panel 14 which as shown in Fig. 2 is mounted centrally therein and held by a suitable filler 15 arranged on opposite sides of the panel between it and the flanges or side members 11 and 12.V This filler 15 is preferably composed of putty and fibre although not` necessarily so. This filler 15 operates to vhold the panel 14 in position and also to cushion it against jars. l
Arranged around the outer edge of the frame 10 is a flange 16, the outer face of which is preferably made flush with the outer face of the side member 11 and said flange is designed when the parts are assembled to rest on the shoulder 3 formed at the base of the flange 2 of frame 1 as is shown clearly in Fig. 2. The vlower face of the connecting element or bott-om 13 of the frame 10 rests on the upper edge of flange 2 of frame 1 and is of a width corresponding to the width of said flange so that when the two frames are connected the outer face of the flan e 12 will be flush with the outer face of the rame 1.
The fastening elements 5 which are designed to hold the panel 14 in position in frame 1 are 'mounted on the breast-4 of said frame at any desired point, four being here shown mounted at the opposite sides and the top and bottom of said frame. One of these fasteners is shown in detail in Fig. 4 and comprises a plate apertured as shown at 5a to receive a screw for fastening it to the frame and one end thereof is provided with an obliquely disposed arcuate flange 6 designed to overlap and engage the outer face of flange 16 of frame 10 when the parts are assembled as is shown clearly in Fig. 2. The opposed end of this plate has a finger notch or fastening the panel.

What is claimed is: Y

A closure of the class described comprising a main frame having a removable panel carrying frame mounted therein, said main frame having a flange around its inner edge at its outer face, a seat at the base of said fiangeterminating in a downwardly inclined breast, said panel frame having a j flange engaging said seat, the outer edge ofv said panel frame proper engaging the edge of the main frame iange, said. anges coacting to form a weather tight joint, and pivoted fasteners for securing said frames together.
