To all whom it may concern.
e it known that I, HARRY E. Rose, a citizen of the United States, residing at Geary, in the county of Blaine and State of Oklahoma, have invented new and useful Improvements in Wrenches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wrenches and has for an object the provision of a wrench inwhich the movable jaw may be quickly operated to provide for rapid adjustment, the adjusting means further providing for adjustment to a small degree.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a wrench in which the shank is provided with teeth for engagement with the teeth of the worm carried by the movable jaw, the construction permitting these teeth to be cut on an exceedingly low pitch so as to prevent retrograde creeping of the movable jaw when the wrench is. in use.
lVith the above and other objects in view, the invention further includes the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.

The worm 15 is rotatably mounted within the recess 14 and by means of a pin 17, one end of which is pointed for engagement with a recess 18 formed in the movable jaw and the opposite end is provided with an enlarged threaded extremity 19 for removable engagement with the teeth 16, the said pin carries a coiled spring 21 whose outer diameter is substantially the same as the bore of the worm. Each end of the spring 21 is formed with a concentrically arranged eye 22 which receives the pin 17 so that the latter is centered within the bore of the Worm and the worm yieldingly held in engagement with the teeth 16 of the shank.
, hen it is desired to adjust the wrench to close the jaws, it is only necessary to push the stationary jaw, the yieldable engagement of the worm with the teeth 16 permitting the said worm to ride over the said teeth. The movable jaw may be quickly adjusted in a reverse direc tion by pressing the worm out of engagement with the teeth 16 and holding it in such position until the jaws have been opened the desireddistance. After adjustment has been made in this manner, the worm 15 may be rotated to secure a more accurate adjustment, the edges of the teeth of the worm being tate its operation. As the teeth are of a low pitch, the wrench will be held tightly in its adjusted position so that the loss of time and annoyance due to frequent readjustment is obviated. V j
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
