lMPROVEMENTlN FURNITURE-SPRINGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 140,188., dated June 24, 1873; application filed June 7, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. DOREMUS,
of the city, county, and State of New York,

My invention has for its object to furnish an improved spring for connecting the seatframe of a chair to the pedestal, for connecting the parts of a jointed back, and for application to other parts of a chair, spring-bed, or other piece of furniture where a yielding connection is required, and which shall be simple in construction, convenient in use, easily applied, and reliable in operation, beingstrong, durable, and not liable to get out of order. The invention consists in the combination of the two plates provided, respectively, with a flange, the rod or bar, the pin, and the rubber block with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
A is a plate, upon the lower side of one edge of which is formed an inwardly-projecting flange, a, in which are formed a number of holes to receive the screws or bolts by which it is secured in place. B is a plate, upon the upper side of one edge of which is formed an upwardly-projecting flange, b, in which are formed a number of holes to receive the screws or bolts by which it is held in place. In the plates A B are formed holes to receive the rod or bar G, which has an eye or hole formed in its upper end to receive a pin, D, which rests upon the upper side of the plate B, or in a recess formed in said upper side to receive it. The latter construction I prefer, as it keeps the pin D secure in place without other fastening. The lower end of the rod or bar 0 may be secured by a nut or other means so that the tension of the spring may be adjusted as required. E is a rubber block, of any suitable form, interposed between the plates AB, and through which the rod or barO passes, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. The bar 0, which forms the hinge, may be located toward one end, as shown in Fig. 1, or in the center, or near one end, as the kind of chair, or the part of the chair, or the purpose for which the spring is used may require.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of the plate A provided with a flange, a, the plate B provided with a flange, b, the rod or bar 0, the pin D, and the rubber block E, with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
