INVENTO? A TTORIVEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFME.
TROLLING-SPOON.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 20, 1921.
Application led. February 19, 1920. Serial No. 359,792.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, EDGAR C. SnLLnoK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trolling-Spoons, of which the tollowing is a specication.
My invention is an improvement in trolling,` spoons, and has for its object to provide a spoon or spinner ot the character described, which may be easily and cheaply manufactured, and which will be attractive to the fish.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a top plan view ot the improved spoon, n
Fig. 2 is a similar view of the connector for connecting the hook, the line and the spoon,
Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
In the present embodiment of the invention the spoon l is of oval formation, and concavo-convex, and suitably painted or plated in colors or the like to attract the fish. This spoon may be nickeled, silvered, porcelained or painted as may be desired, and it is connected with a shank or link formed from wire bent to Shape.
This shank is composed of a body portion 2 having at one end a loop 3, and at the other an eye 1l, the shank being provided adjacent to the eye with a laterally extending` loop 5. The loop 3 is adapted for connection with a hook or hooks indicated at 6, and the eye et is adapted for connection with a suitable swivel indicated at T, for connecting the line to the shank.
rlhe spoon l has an opening 8 through which the loop 5 is passed, to connect the spoon to the shank, and the body 2 of the shank is wrapped with silk thread indicated at 9 or the like, ot a brilliant color, as for instance Vermillion, red, or shades oiE the same. A bead l0 is mounted on the shank between the wrapping 9 of thread and the laterally extending loop 5, and the spoon is ready for use.
rllhe improved spoon is used in the usual manner, and the winding or' fabric which may be of silk or other material, represents the body of the insect, the bead representing the head. Referring to Fig. 2, it will be seen that the shank is formed by bending a length of wire in such manner that the shank is composed or two strands of wire lying along` one side or" each other, and
with the ends of the wire at the center of one of the strands.
It will be noticed referring to Fig. 2, that the extremities of the wire from which the shank is formed, lie upon the opposite side of the central portion thereof from the laterally extending loop 5, so that the lower member of the said loop crosses the central portion of the wire. Thus there is provided a straight pull for the spoon when trolling, and in practice the extremities will be soldered or brazed to the central portion ot' the wire, that is, the shank and the two strands of the shank will be soldered together.
I claim i A trolling spoon, comprising a shank formed from a single piece of wire doubled upon itself to form a shank consisting of two members lying alongside each other, the ends of the wire being intermediate the end of one of the said members, said wire having at one end a loop and at the other an eye, and having adjacent to the eye an outwardly bent portion forming a loop, a spoon supported by said last named loop, a swivel supported by the eye, and hooks supported by the first named loop.
