which the following is fullfclear, and exact description.

The present invention relates to bags and has reference more particularly to a bag which is produced preferably from cheap material and which includes a closing flap with av handle associated with the flap for carrying the bag.

The primary object of the invention is to improve the.- construction of bags of this character, especially the means for fasten-- ing or anchoring the handle.

For the purpose of illustrating the manner of reducing the invention to practice will be referred to witlrreference to the accompanying drawing in which,

Referring now to the d rawipgs in detail and especially concerning Figs. 1 and 2, the bag 5 is preferably made of paper with a closed end (5, and with the sides converging toward and terminating in an open top with one of the sidestuiade to form aclosing flap 7 and adapted to overlie the opposite side as shown. The usual string fastening means 8 is adapted to maintain the flap closure closedas is customary in devices of this kind.

Arranged beneath the closure flap 7 is a handle fastening or anchoring means 9 which preferably comprises a relatively stiff strip folded upon itself with its folded edge made to coincide with and bear against the fold of the closing flap 7. Arranged at spaced points preferably on the folded edge of the strip 9 are perforations which are made to receive a flexible handle 10 which may be constructed of cord or the like, and accord ing to the embodiment in Figs. 1 and 2 the view of the ends of the handle after being passed through the perforations terminate in knots 11 which lie beneath the folds of the strip and are of a size to prevent withdrawal through the perforations.

In the construction of handle employed with that embodiment of the invention illustrated in Fig. 3 it is somewhat different from that just mentioned, as instead of knotting the ends of the handle the same is passed through the perforations and along the strip beneath its folded edge to provide a loop.

forms but where the handle is shown in Fig. 4 as made in the form of a loop, a suitable coat hanger or the like 12 may be used and suspended from the loop of the hanger beneath the folded sides of the strip and presented in the bag so as to receive the coat or other garment which may be contained in the bag.

The construction of bag shown in Fig. 3 instead of employing the closed end 6, etc,- represents a folded structure which may be constructed from a blank and cut with relatively large foldable side flaps 13 which are adapted to be firstfolded over the body of the bag with their overlapping edges made fast by the string fastening means 14, and with a relatix'ely large end flap 15 which is adapted to be folded to overlie the side flaps 13 and with the closure flap 16 adapted to be folded upon the flap 15 and overlapping the edge thereof, and made fast by the string fastening means 17. In both forms of bag the fastening means for the handle 10 is presented beneath the closure 7 and 16, with the handle 10 passed through the flaps and presented as a hand grip for carrying the bag.

It is to be noted that the folded strip 9 aside from its utility as an anchoring or fastening means for the handle also offers a stiffening or reinforcing means for the bag the advantages of which are best realized when the strip is made as substantially shown and described, that is to say folded to provide a double thickness with the perforations which receive the handle made on the folded edge. whereupon this edge may coincide to the fold in the closure flaps 7 and 16.

.Vhen a hanger such 12 is used with the bag the same will offer a convenient means of delivering garments and in this connection it will be appreciated that the handle 10 aside from providing means for carrying the bag will alsoplter a means for sup porting the hag from a hook'with the garment contained therein supported by the hanger.

It will be further understood that the perforations in the folded strip S) may be reinforced by small paper or metal washers.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:-

1. A hag having a closure liap provided with spaced openings intermediate of its ends and .in the told thereof. an inverted V- shaped stiii' strip arranged beneath the tlap and having at the junction of its members openings registering with the openings of the flap, and a cord secured in the r. penings 0f the stiti' strip and passed through the openings of the flap to form a handle.

2. A bag having a closure tiap provided with spaced openings intermediate of its ends and in the fold thereof. an inverted ii-shapcd stili'ening strip arranged beneath the flap and having at the junction of its members openings registering with the opeir ings of the flap, and a cord secured in the openings of the tiap and the stiffening strip to form two loops, one lying on the inner face of the stiii'eningstrip atthe unction of its members and tornnng a suspension means and the other projecting from the edge of the bag and forming a handle.
