HINGEFOR DOORS AND THE LIKE.
eoaieo.
Application filed. May 19, 1913,
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 13, 1921'.
(GRANTED unnnn THE PROVISIONS OF THE Act or Manon-s, 1921, 41STAT; n, 1 313.
To all whom it may camera:
Be it known that I, MAURIQE Z t'i'r'rER, citizen of the French Republic, residing at 33 Rue Traversiere, Paris, France, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Hinges for Doors and the like, of which the following is a specification.
It is difficult to place them satisfactorily in position and impossible to adjust the position of the door without planing it away where it comes into contact with the doorjamb.
The adjustable hinge forming the subject of the present invention obviates all these drawbacks, as the workman will be able to regulate it easily before finally fixing it in position.
Moreover when the wood of the door-jamb becomes dry it will be possible for the hinge to be adjusted without its being necessary to plane away the parts of the door which would prevent its closing and would rub against the door-j amb.
The drawing accompanying my specification shows by way of example one method of carrying out the invention.
Figure 1 shows the arrangement of the adjustable hinge placed at the top and bottom of a door:
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the lower hinge:
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of Fig. 1:
Fig. his a plan of the corresponding fitting for the lower hinge:
Fig. 5 is a section on the line A B Fig. 1.
The lower hinge is constructed in such a way as to allow the door to be easily raised. it also comprises as will be seen in Fig. 5, a channeled iron piece 7 into which can be slid a rod 13 of corresponding section provided at its extremity with a pin 17. The extremity of the rod 13 is formed with a hook 11 in which engages the nose 12 of a piece 8, pivoted to the channel piece 7 at 9 and under the constant pressure of a flat spring 10 riveted to the channeled iron piece; The extremity of the hook 11 is beveled and so it suffices in order to keep or insert the rod 13 in the interior of the channeled iron 7 to overcome the pressure of the spring 10. The piece 8 will turn on its pivot as indicated at Fig. 1 and the nose 12 will come into engagement with the hook 11. As will be seen the lower hinge is not adjustable in this suit requirements.
case. Tt'is' the position of the corresponding member shown at Fig; 6- and Fig. 7 whichmay be changed at will. This corresponding member is formed of a channeled iron piece 18, having a longitudinal opening 20, and perforations by means of which it is fixed. The opening 20 allows the pin 17 to pass into a perforation 21 in a sliding piece 16 also provided with a longitudinal opening 14; allowing for the passage of a screw 19 which connects the channel piece 18 with a rectangular plate 15. In this way by reason of this arrangement, the position of the perforation21 in which the pin 17 engages can be adjusted and after adjustment the slide 16 may be definitely fixed in position by means of the clamping screw 19 and the plate 15.
As will be seen the lower hinge easily allows the door to be raised. It will be sufficient in order to effect this operation to dis engage the piece 8 and withdraw the door. The replacing can be eifected automatically. Moreover, the adjustable hinges allow the position of the door to be easily adjusted so as to prevent all friction between the doorjamb and the sides of the door.
The invention is not limited in any way to the method of carrying it into effect just described as the details may be changed to The section of the material of the hinges may be varied and either or both of the parts may able.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed I declare that what I claim is:
1. In a hinge for doors and the like, a channeled piece adapted to be fastened to the door, a rod slidable lengthwise of said channeled piece and provided with a projecting hinge pin and also provided with a hook, a latch movably secured to said channeled piece and adapted for locking engagement with the hook of said rod, a slide located exteriorly of said channeled piece and engaging the hinge pin to move in unison with said rod, a member adapted to be fastened to the door j amb and forming a guide for said slide, said member having a slot for the passage of thehinge pin, and means for locking the slide to said member.
2. In a hinge for doors and the like, a member adapted for attachment to thedoor be made adjust- 7 and provided with a hinge pin, a slide movable in unison with said member and engaging the hinge pin, another member adapted for attachment to the door jamb and extending between said slide and the first-named member said jamb-member having a slot for the passage of the hinge pin, and means for locking the slide to the jamb-member.
3. Inahinge for doors andthe like, a member adapted for attachment to the door and provided with a hinge pin, a slide movable in unison with said member, another member adapted for attachment to the door jamb and engaging said slide, the latter being provided with a longitudinal slot, a plate adapted to engage the slide on the side opposite to that engaged by said jainb member and a clamping screw connecting the jamb member with the plate and extending through said slot of the slide.
