To all whom t may concern Be 1t 'known that we,WALTEn I. MAYER and Frnnnrcn Braamt, citizens of the United county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improveniente in Display Devices; and wev do declare the following to be a full, clearLand exact description of the invention, such as will enable others slrilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a display or advertising device and particularly to a device which maybe conveniently located in a display window upon a counter orl upon a table, the device" beingso constructed thatit willfmechanically bring into view different objects preferably at uniformly divided stages or periods and when the end of the sequence of operations has been reached, the device is so constructed that the displayedobjects will bere-displayed in reverse order. `For example,V the devices to be`- displayed or (the matterto be displayed, as" the case may be, may be arranged on leaves or panels whichA `may be moved one after the other intermittently in one di rection, for example,` from right to left,

The number of fingers or arms 41 on member 27 will correspond to the number of arms 40 to be actuated and the arms 41 will be of progressively increasing lengths so that the first arm for the finger 40 on the disk 33 will be long enough to contact with the finger on disk 33 but will be too short to contact with the finger on disk 32. The next arm 41 will be long enough to contact with the finger 40 on disk 32 but not long enough to contact with the finger lon disk 31, the next arm 41 being long enough to contact with the finger 40 on disk 30. Therefore, as the disk or head 27 rotates, the fingers 41 will progressively engage the fingers. 40 on the respective disks or mutilated gears to turn the disks 39, 38, 37 and 36 in sequence.
The disks 36, 37, 38 and 39 carry fingers 42, 43,44 and respectively, having grooved portions to support the panels or leaves 46, 47, 48 and 49. Therefore, as each mutilated gear ordisk carrying an arm 4() is turned, a corresponding movement will be imparted to its-.complementary leaf-carrying disk so thatV the leaves will be folded over from Y right to left until all of the leaves have been turned.
Vhen all'of the leaves have been turned, the last arm or finger 41 will have passed the lingers 40 and the arms 41 willlbe car- V.ried to the lower portion of the casing to engage corresponding fingers 40 on a set of `mutilated gears, generically designated 50,

p, will bewell understood, the leaves being progressively turned until all of them have been restored to their original position, after which the arm or finger 41 will have moved to the top to again turn them from right to left.Y The alternating sequences will be continued lso long as the device is operated.
The motor may receive power from any suitable source as, for example, a commercial circuit, and I have shown a plug 52 carrying conductors 53 and 54. The conductor 53 Vis connected to a switch 55, whereby the circuit maybe broken. The conductor 53 is also connected to lamps 56. and 57, the conductor `54 being interrupted by insulated contacts 58, adapted to be bridged by the spaced conductor plates 59 in the back of the disk or head 27, as will be clearly seen in Fig. 2. Therefore, as the disk rotates, the light circuit will be intermittently closed I, f, and opened to flash the lights intermittently,
the contacts being arranged so that the light will be flashed on when the leaf has been turned and flashed ofi' while the leaf is turnince the groups at the bottom ing. The motor is connected to the circuit consisting of the conductors 53 and 54 in parallel, as shown in Fig. 2, and there is preferably a rheostat 60 for controlling the speed of the motor.
The circuit wiring is not important as any means can be utilized for flashing on the light at such times and at such periods as desirable, the essential novelty of the invention residing rather in the mechanism for operating the panels of leaves.
The mutilated disks or gears on the respective shafts 28 and 29 may be mounted in any convenient manner and are preferably spaced apart by spacing washers or collars 61 and 62.
It is apparent, of course, that the removable panel 5 in the back of the machine may be secured in any convenient manner and it is adapted to be taken out in order that access to the interior of the case may be had whereby inspection or repairs to the mechanism may be made.
Attention is called to the fact that the arms 40 for the leaf-turning elements at the bottom of the shaft 29 are offset with respect to the arms 40 at the top, this being desirable because when the leaves have been turned over in one direction, it is necessary to have the arms for the lower leaf-turning elements in line with the pins 41 when they reach the bottom of the casing so that they may come in contact with the arms 41 to turn the leaves back to their original position.
It is necessary to offset the arms 40 for the lowerleaf-turning elements with respect to the arms 40 because in the initial operati'on ofthe machine when a pin on the turned head contacts with the arm 40, it will impart a partial rotation to one of the upper disks and correspondingly turn the leafsupporting element, in turn giving a partial rotation to one of the leaf-turning elements at the bottom of the casing and since the leaf-turning elements at the bottom of the casing are in mesh with the mutilated gears of the set 51, there will be a corresponding turning movement imparted to that set of mutilated gears. Tf the arms 40 are not offset with respect to the arms 40, they would be moved out of the path of the fingers 41. By offsetting the arms 40 and 40' with respect to each other, there will always be one set of arms in the path of movement of the fingers.' v
-What we claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, a plurality of independently movable panelcarrying gears, complementary gears meshing therewith and having laterally projecting arms, a selective disk having lingers to selectively Contact with the arms on the complementary gears, and move them to progressively turn the panels, and means for actuating said disk.
2. ln a device of the class described, a plurality ci leatsupporting, rotating elements having independent movement, complementary elements in direct driving con neet-ion therewith and having lateral arms normally arranged in vertical alinement, a rotatable head at right angles thereto and having selec-tive arms of different lengths to progressively engage the arms on the com plementary elements from the bottom to* Ward the top, and means tor actuating said head.
3. ln a device of the class described, a plurality of leali-supporting, rotating elements having independent` movement, complementary elements in direct drivingcennection therewith and having lateral arms normally arrangedin vertical alinement, a rotatable head at right angles thereto and having selective arms ot dil'l'erent lengths to progressively engage the arms on the com pleinentary elements from. the bottom toward the top, means for actuating said.
