INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented Mv. l@ m21.

"BIISVILLE, ODE ISL.
PCER.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HoRA'rIo G. WEST, a citizen of the United States, residing at Harrisville, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pickers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to the textile art, particularly to loom pickers, and has for its object the provision of a picker which is so constructed that the shuttle engaging portion and the guide rod engaging portion may be replaced when worn so as to greatly increase the length of time that the device will be capable of use, as it is well known that these portions wear out and consequently render the whole device useless.
An important and more specific object is the provision of a picker of this character whichhas its head formed with a socket.
within which is disposed a removable plug, this plug engaging the shuttle and being replaceable when worn so that it is unnecessary to replace the entire picker after extended use.
A further object is the provision of a picker which is provided with a removable sleevey which bears upon the guide rod, the sleeve being replaceable when worn.
Another object is the provision of a picker which is formed entirely of fiber, bakelite or other similar material, the advantage being 'that such material is very durable and will withstand great wear and the use of this materia-l being preferable to the present construction in which raw hide is commonly employed, inasmuch as heat is ygenerated from the friction of the picker upon its guide rod and this heat soon destroys a picker formedy of raw hide. v
An additional object is the provision of a ldevice of this character which consists of' Specification of Letters Patent.

.application led uapril 10, 1920. Serial No. 372,802.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation, and Fig. 4 is a rear elevation. Referring more particularly t0 the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the bodyrof the picker which is formed of fiber, bakelite or other similar material. At its top the body 10 is provided with a longitudinal bore 11 within which is disposed a removable sleeve 12 which is slidably engaged upon the guide rod 13. lThis sleeve is held in place by a pair of pins 14 threaded `into the body. At its lower end the body 10 isv provided with a socket 15 with which communicates a relatively small hole 14. Disposed. within the socket 15 is a plug 17 which is held in place by a transverse pin 18. A plurality of transverse' reinforcing' pins 19 are provided at the upper and lower portions of the body.
ln operation the picker is pushed forwardly along the rod 13 by a picker stick and is pulled back by a strap fastened toy is so well known. In the use of the device the plug 17 engages the shuttle and pushes the same from the shuttle box. lt will be seen that the plug 17 is subjected to con siderable wear but when the plug is worn it may be removed by removing the pin 18 and then inserting some suitable implement through the hole 16 and forcing the plug out, after which'a new plug is inserted and the device rendered as good as new. When the sleeve 12 becomes worn the pins 14 may be removed and the sleeve removed and replaced.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of m invention, it is of course to be understoo that I reserve the right to make such changes in the form, construction, and arrangement of partsas will not depart from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
vlHaving thus described my invention, ll claim: y
A picker comprising a body having 4its upper portion formed with a bore counterbored throughout the major portion of its length, a removable bearing sleeve disposed within said counterbore and adapted to slide upon a guide rod, the lower end of the body being formed with a head adapted to engage los Q l menue a shuttle, said sleeveV being provided at its uppermost and lowermost polnts with alned f threaded holes, the upper portion of the ,body being provided wlth a threaded socket registering with the lowermost of the said holes, the uppermost portion of the body being formed with a threaded opening reg-4 istering with the uppermost of said lthreaded holes, a screw threaded through the lowermost hole' in the sleeve and engaging wivfuin 10 hoie and engaging Wthinwthe uppermost 15 hole in the sleeve.
In testimony whereof I a'u: my si nature.
