Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 25, 1921.
Application filed March 23, 1921. Serial 110.45%685.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, WALTER H. COLLINS, a citizen of the United States. and a resident of Summit, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Reminder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
his invention relates to an improved article of manufacture commonly known as a reminder and has for an object to provide a construction which will be applicable as a kitchen reminder 'or as a reminder in many other places.
Another object of the invention is to provide a reminder in which means are provided for presenting to view in a classified manner a large number of articles needful in a house or in some other place.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a reminderin which the indicating members are slidingly mounted in slots formed with a series of depressions for holding the slidable members at any desired point.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan View of a reminder dis closing an embodiment of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view through Fig. 1 on line 2-2.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view through Fig. 1 on line 3-8, certain parts being broken away.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through a button disclosing certain features of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates a base which may be metal or other material and when formed of metal is preferably provided with a turned down flange 2 on both sides of both ends for stiffening the base and with a number of pressed out beads 3 used also as stiffening means. Apertures 4: are arranged at the top whereby the device may be easily applied or removed from a supporting nail or other sup porting member. Arranged on the body lbetween the central bead 3 and the two side beads are two series of transverse slots 5 and 6, said slots merging into curved end sections or pockets? and 8. In forming the slots 5 and 6 it will be observed that the walls thereof are scalloped for forming a number of de pressions 9 in which the various indicating members or buttons 10 and 11 may be placed according to the article desired.
The various spaces 12 between adjacent slots 5 and 6 are provided withwords opposite the various depressions 9, said words indicating different articles which might be needed. Preferably, articles of the same kind or of the same general nature are arranged in the same space 12, as for instance, all kinds of forms of bread are arranged in the same space 12 opposite the general legend 18 which indicates bread. It will be noted that adjacent each of the outer beads 3 there is provided vertical spaces 14 and 15 in which general titles are provided, said titles being opposite the various spaces 12. The legend or title 13 indicates that different kinds of bread are mentioned in the space 12 opposite said legend. The top space 12 is preferably arranged with the words, Breakfast, Luncheon and Dinner and with numbers indicating the hour opposite the various depressions 9 so that beads may be used in indicating the time of each meal. Preferably, at the'top space 16 are arranged a number of important legends which are used more or less often and which is desired to have a convenient place.
As shown in Fig. 1, it will be observed that space is provided for telephone numbers of a fire house, doctor and police station as well as a space for the name of a remedy for burns, poisons and the like. It is evident that other important data could be provided in this space without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In forming the buttons 10 and 11 the same are preferably formed from two strips 17 and 18 of metal and bent to produce a body structure 19 covered by button 20 of sheet metal or other material and arranged so that there will be an extension 21 projecting upwardly through the body 20 and a pair of v bendable fingers 22 and 23 extending downwardly from the body 19. When the button is applied, the fingers 22 are projected through one of the slots 5 or 6 and then bent over as indicated in Fig. 2. It is, of course evident that the bending action is such as to leave the button loose and easily shiftable from the various pockets 7 and 8 to the various slots. By reason of the recesses 19, the buttons will remain opposite any name and by arranging the slots 5 and 6 laterally, a large number of names of articles may be used in connection with the slots while the names of these articles may be readily located by a glance down one of the spaces. For instance, if it should be desired to order some coffee, the person using the reminder will glance down column 14 until the eye reaches the words To drink. This would indicate that the button in the pocket 7 opposite this legend should be moved over to the point adjacent the word Coffee. Preferably, the reminder is provided with one or more openings 24: at the bottom so that a pad and also, if desired, a pencil could be tied to the reminder for ready use when giving an order. 7
What I claim is r 1; A reminder of the character described comprising a metallic base'provided with a central pressed up bead, a pair of side pressed up beads spaced a short distance from the edges of the base, all of said beads extending longitudinally oi the base and a plurality of spaced transverse slots arranged between the outer bead and the central bead,
each of said slots having a pocket, indicating buttons normally arranged in said pockets and shiftable into said slots and legends printed on said base between said slots, said legends being located in respect to the slots so that said buttons may be brought opposite any of said legends.
2. A reminder comprising a base provided with a plurality of slots, each slot merging into a pocket, a plurality of buttons arranged in each of saidpockets and adapted to be moved into the respective slots, a legend arranged on said base opposite said slots, there'being a plurality oflegends opposite each slot. 7
3. A reminder comprising a base provided with a plurality of spaced transverse slots, said slots having scalloped Walls Whereby depressions are provided, said base being also provided with a pocket at one end of each ofsaid slots, a plurality of beads normally arranged in each of said pockets adapted to be moved into said slots and rest in any of said depressions and a plurality of legends arranged adjacent each slot, said legends being associated with the respectivedepressions so that said buttons may be moved opposite any of the legends.
4:. A reminder comprising a base having'a plurality of slots, legends arranged opposite said slots and a button adapted to beslidingly mounted in each of said slots, said buttons comprising a pair of strips of material bent to produce a body, an operating tab, retaining fingers and a covering member for said body. 7
5. A reminder comprising a base divided into a plurality of vertical sections, a plurality of transversely extending spaced slots in the two central sections, a plurality or" legends indicating the general character of articles, said legends being arranged in the two side sections, said legends being also arranged opposite the space between the respective slots, legends arranged on the space between the respective slots indicating the particular articles, and manually actuated indicating means arranged in said slots and movable opposite the second mentionedlegends, V
