DISPLAY-CARD.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented 00 25, 1921.
Application filed February 9, 15:21. Serial No. 443,542.
To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, CHARLES C. CoHN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, county of Queens, and State of New York, have invented. a certain new and useful Improvement in Display-Cards, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a display card and has for its object to provide an article of this character which will be used for displaying an article of wearing apparel known as a garment foundation.
A further object of this invention is to provide a display card in which the article carried by the card will be most completely and effectively displayed and in which the article is securely held on the card under all conditions of use.
With these objects, and other objects which may hereinafter appear, in View, I have devised the particular arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth and more particularly point-ed out in the claims appended hereto.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part hereof in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display card made in accordance with my invention, showing the manner in which a garment foundation is displayed thereon,
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the card, the foundation being diagrammaticallyshown thereon,
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows,
Fig. 4.- is a front elevation of a modified form of card,
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the card shown in Fig. 4 and Fig. '6 is a plan view of the card shown in Fig. 4 diagrammatically illustrating the manner in which the garment foundation is carried thereon.
Throughout the various views of the drawings similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the preferred embodiment of my in vention as disclosed in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 of the accompanying drawing, 1 indicates the card which is preferably a sheet of cardboard of substantial thickness or of a thin sheet of metal or any other desired material.
Near its upper edge the card is provided with a pair of slits 2 which extend inwardly from opposite side edges of the card and form tongues 3 which extend between the folds of shoulder straps 4 on the garment foundation displayed on the card.
vAt 5 is shown a slot extending inwardly from the lower edge of the card, and at its lower end the card has its side edges cut away as at 6 to form shoulders 7 for a purpose to be hereinafter explained.
The foundation which is displayed on the card consists of a body-strip 8 of an expansible arrangement from which extends the pair of shoulder straps 4 also of an expansible arrangement. To place the foundation in position it is preferably folded as disclosed in Fig. 3. As the cards 1 are generally of uniform size and the foundations are of different sizes, the surplus portion 9 of the body portion 8 of the foundation extends through the slot 5 in the card and is retained in position by the pressure of the rear fold 10 of the body portion.
The tongues 3 at the upper end of the card form shoulders on which the shoulder straps 4 are supported.
The shoulders 7 adjacent the lower end of the card hold the body portion or main band 8 downwardly should the shoulder straps 4; be rather taut on the card and tend to draw the band 8 upwardly.
In Figs. 4 to 6 inclusive 1 have shown a modified form of display card in which the card 11 is cut out to resemble in outline the head and shoulders or bust of a human body. The front face 12 of the card 11 may be suitably ornamented or printed so that when the foundation is in place upon the card an effect of a person wearing the foundation will be had. i
The card 11 is provided with the bottom slot 5 and the body band 8 of the foundation is placed on the card as has been heretofore explained. The shoulder straps 4 in this instance however are looped over the shoulders 13 of the card as will be seen in Figs. 4 and 5.
-t will be apparent from the foregoing that the outline of my improved display card may be made in many forms, and that the foundation displayed on the card may be folded in many ways to lit the card, two of such ways being disclosed herein, without departing from the spirit of my invention.
It will be seen that a feature of my improved display card is that it retains the article carried by it securely without the aid of supplemental fastening devices and that it holds the same flat, preventing undue fold ing and creasing and further that it displays the article in the manner in which the article appears when in actual use.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my invention is not to be restricted to the exact embodiment shown, but is broad enough to cover all structures coming within the scope of the annexed claims.
hat I claim is:
1. An article of the class described com prising a card having a slot at one of its ends to receive folded portions of an article of wearing apparel, said card also having slits at its opposite end with shoulder portions between said slits and the edge of the card to enter into looped shoulder straps on the article of wearing apparel.
2. An article of the class described comprising a display card for holding an article of apparel, said article adapted to be folded about said card adjacent its lower end, said card having a slot to receive the folded ends of said article of apparel and having shoulder portions to receive looped shoulder straps on the article of apparel and retain the same substantially flat on one face of the card.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York this 7th day of February, 1921.
