, I QMQM? UNITED STATES PETER EPLER, OF OOLLUMSVILLE, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT 'IO PATENT OEEICE.
JOHN ZERBE, OF LIMESTONE TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN NECK-YOKES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 139,380, dated May 27, 1873 application filed April 12, 1873.
To all whom it 'may concern.-
Beit known that I, PETER EPLER, of Collumsville, in the countyof Lycoming and in the `State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necl-Yokes5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l isa perspective view of my device,
and Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal section of the same.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The design of my invention is to render more easy the attachment of martin gale and holdback straps to or updn a neck-yoke; and it consists in the construction and combination of the spring loops or holders with the neck-yoke, substantially as and for the purpose hereinafter specified.
In the annexed drawing, A represents a neck-yoke provided at its longitudinal center with a pole-ring, B, and at its ends with rings O for receiving the breast-straps, all in the usual manner. Secured to or upon the front side of the neckyoke, upon each side of its longitudinal center, is a metal spring,D, which extends forward for about one-fourth of an inch, thence outward in a line parallel to the side of said yoke to a point near the end of the same, and then turning rearward has its end d resting upon the surface of said yoke or contained Within a suitable socket, a, provided within the same.
As thus constructed, by moving the free end of the spring awa-y from the yoke the hold-back or martingale strap may be placed in position beneath said spring, 'which being released returns to its place, and ei'ectually locks said strap upon the neck-yoke.
The improvement shown adds but slightly to the original cost of the neck-yoke, while it materially increases its eiciency, and lessens the labor of attaching horses to a carriage or Wagon.
Having thus fully set forth the nature and ,merits of my invention, what I claim as new The neck-yoke A having the'springs D and d, substantially as and for the purpose specilied.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of February, 1873.
PETER EPLER. Witnesses:
GEORGE EoNTE, WM. H. MOOR.
