To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARL OLAUS, a citizen of Germany and a resident of Philadelphia, injthe county of Philadelphiaand State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Dining-RoomTurntables, of which thefollowing is a specification.

. In order that the service of-food by one person at a table to others seated around the same table may be facilitated, turn tables are provided which are supported upon such table, preferably at its center. The food to be served is placed in a plate, bowl or the like, which is placed upon the turn table, and the latter is then turned so as to convey or transport the plate, bowl or the like with the food contained therein to a position where'it may be conveniently reached and removed by the person being served and for whom it was intended by the server.

By the employment of a device of this character the services of a waiter to carry the plates, bowls or the likefrom the person at the table serving the foodlto the person being served may be dispensed with.

It is one of the objects 'ofmy invention to provide a dining room turn table which is light, strong and durable and which may be manufactured at a minimum cost.

It is also an objectof myinvention to provide a dining room turn table having an improved construction of base which provides a wide support for the rotatable table and which is low? and relatively flat sothat the said rotatable, tableis situatedbut a short distance above the dining room table or.

- Afurther and more specific object of my invention is to provide aib'ase for a dining room turn table having wheelsmounted at intervals in-a circle at a distance from and concentric with the axis of the base and of andadvantagesthereof,will be pointed out in the detailed description which follows or will be apparent from such description.

In order that my invention may. bereadily understood and its practical advantages fully appreciated, reference may be had to the accompanying drawing in which I have illustrated one'form of a convenient embodiment thereof. However, it is to be understood that my invention is susceptible of embodiment, within the scope of the claims, in other forms of construction than that shown. Y

'Referringto the drawing: 1 designates the top of a circular dining room table and 2 the top of a dining room turn table supported upon the table 1. In the construction shown the top 2 of the turn table consists ofrelatively thin plate metal, the outer edge of which is turned downwardly and inwardly as indicated at 3 to provide a more ornamental finish and also to stiffen and strengthen the plate. The plate 2 constituting the top'of the turn table is provided with a number of concentric grooves as indicated at 1, their purpose being to stiffen and strengthen the plate.

, The top 2 is pivotally secured at its center tothe supporting base of the structure. In the construction as shown the top is pro-videdwith an opening 5 surrounded by a countersunk portion 6 in which is seated the head 7 of a screw 8 which extends into the base and constitutes a pivot for the top 2. v

In the construction as shown the base comprises a cap portion 10 of thin sheet metal or other suitable material. This cap is provided with a flange 11, the outer, lower edge of which is turned up or beaded, as indicated at 12. The presence of this turned up or beadedportion not only produces a more finished appearance but serves to increase. the strength of the cap structure.

15 designates a filler, preferably consisting of wood because of its lightness, but such filler may consist of any other material as may be desired, which: is situated within the ,space or chamber formed by the flange 11 :openingthrough which the screw 8 extends.

The screw 8 not only serves as a pivot for the table top 2, but also serves to,-in part,

vsecure the cap and the filler together.

It will be apparent that other means than the screw 8 may be employed for pivotally connecting the table top 2 and the base to- 11 as is shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.

The purpose of this relationship is to provide means whereby the covering of textile fabric or other suitable material 16 upon the lower side of the filler 15 may be readily secured inplace, which may be accomplished by pushing 'or forcing the outer edges 17 of the said covering into the space between the filler 15 and the flange 11.

"The outer portion of therturn table top 2 rests upon and is supported by small wheels 18 which are rotatably mounted upon headed pivots 20. These pivots extend through holes in the flange 11 and into the filler 15 and'are arranged radially with respect to the axis of rotationof the top 2. The wheels are retained on the pivots 20 by the heads of the latter and are situated in planes which extend tangentially of the flange '11. In addition to serving as pivots the parts 20 also constitute additional means for securing the cap 10 to the filler'15.

, One purposeof the filler 15 and of the covering 16 therefor is'to provide means for pre'ventlng the metalllc portlon of the structure from resting upon or contacting with the top, smooth,'usually polished'surfaee of a dining'room table upon which the turn table device is supported. It will be understood that' other means for accomplishing the same end may be substituted without departing from the principle of my invention and it will further be understood that various changes and modifications in the construction may be embodied without departing from my invention as the same is defined and set forthin the claims which follow. j

What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a dining'roomturn table, the com bination of a top consisting of relatively thin sheet metal, a base comprising a cap provided with a flange at its outer edge and a filler situated within the said flange, means for securing the saidtop to the said base, the said means also connecting the said cap to the said filler, pivots situated at the outer edge ofthe said base and extending through the said flange into the said filler and constituting additional means for securing the cap and filler together,-and rotatable wheels mounted upon'said pivots and 'rotatably supporting the outer portion of the said to 2. A dining room turn table comprising a base, said base including a metallic cap portion having a depending flange at its outeredge, rotatabletop' supporting devices secured to the said base, and non-metallic means having connection with the said flange for contacting with the table or other support upon which the said turntable is situated; 5 7

3. A dining room turn table comprising a base, the said base including a metallic cap portion having a fiange'at its outer edge, a filler situatedwithin thesaid cap portion, the diameter of the said filler being less than the internal diameter of the said flange, means for securing the said cap portion and the said filler together, and alcovering for the lower side of said filler, the

outer edge "of said covering being inserted into the space between the said filler and the said flange for'securing the said cover in place. 7

5. A dining room'turn table comprisinga base, the said base including a metallic cap portlon provided with .a flange at its rotatably supporting the outer portion of the turn table top, and a covering'of textile material upon the bottom of said filler,
