To all whom c'tmay concern:

. Be it known that I, THOMAS P. HAYDOOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Bedford, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements inPicker-Stick- Cushioning Means, of which the following is a specification. I

The object vof my presentv invention is the provision of a cushioning means for picker sticks of looms, characterized by, simplicity, inexpensiveness and the facility with which the cushion may be removed and replaced with a fresh cushion when occasion demands. 7

To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the improvement as hereinafter described and definitely claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification:-

Figure 1 is an elevation illustrating a right hand. cushioning means constructed in accordance with my invention as properly positioned on a right hand shuttle box.

Fig. 2 is an enlarged vertical section showing my novel cushioning means per 86.

Figs. 4 and 5 are perspectives'of the device body.

Similar numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in all of the views of the drawings.

- In Fig. 1 I Show my improvement as applied to a right hand shuttle box, but it will be understood in this connection that the improvement is also applicable to a left hand shuttle box in which latter event the parts of the body will be arranged to accommodate it to a left hand shuttle box.

The improvement comprises a body and a cushion. The body is preferably though not necessarily in the form of a casting and comprises a shank 16 in which is an aperture 17, an upright post 19 on the shank, a pocket portion 21 at the end of the shank opposed to the picker stick 12, and a flange 27 that reaches above the pocket portion 21 and one side edge of the shank 16 as illustrated. split, if desired, so as to increase its fiexlheld against the underside of the shuttle box. 7

When my novel cushioning means is applied in the manner indicated it will be understood that the body of the improvement will be strongly held in position by a bolt 18 and a nut thereon, the said bolt being passed through the aperture 17 in the shank 16. It will also be understood that the post 19 will rest in the slot in the bottom of the shuttle box while the flange 27 will rest against the side of the shuttle box to preclude lateral shifting of the cushioning means. When the body is applied as Stated the shoulder 24 in the body will operate to hold the cushion 23 under pressure against the underside of the lay 10 while the bifurcation in the pocket will enable the picker stick 12 to act against the cushion 23 so that the cushion will absorb the shock andjar.

Manifestly when the cushion 23 is impaired by wear, the body may be expedi tiously and easily removed for the placing of a fresh cushion therein and may then as readily vbe attached to the lay.

The picker stick is shown in Fig. 1 as equipped with appurtenances 13, 1 1 and 15. These appurtenances are of the common types well known in the art, and need not, therefore, be described.

I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangement of parts embraced in the present and preferred embodiment of my invention in order to impart a full, clear and exact understanding of the said embodiment. I do not desire, however, to be understood as confinin myself to the said specific construction and relative arrangement of parts inasmuch as in the future practice of the invention varif ous changes and modifications may be made such as fall within the scope of my invention as defined in my appended 018411118,

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is

l. Picker stick cushioning means comprising a holding body having an apertured shank, a post rising from said shank, a pocket portion at one end of the shank and bifurcated for the reception of; a picker stick, a shoulder in said pocket portion adjacent to the post, and a flange extending upwardly from the pocket portion and one side edge of the shank, and a cushion removably arranged in said pocket portion of the body; said cushion being shaped into rounded form and being adapted to be held by the body against theopposed portionof a loom.

2. A body adapted to hold apicker stick cushion and to be attached to a loom portion; the said body having a pocket in one end and also having the said end bifurcated, and further having an apertured shank, a post thereon to form an abutment for a cushion, and a side flange. 3. Picker stick cushioning means comprising a body in which is a pocket'open at its upper side to confine a cushion against an opposed loom portion, the end of sald pocket being bifurcated to enable a picker stick to act against the cushion, and the inner and upper portion of the pocket being shouldered. j
