JAMES CARLTON HAMMOND, OF JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA.
PORTABLE BATHHOUSE.
Be itknown that 1, James CARLTON ITILhlUF MOND, a citizen of the United States, residing .at Jacksonville, in the county of Duval and Stateof Florida, have invented a new and useful Portable Bathhouse, of which the, following is a specification.
This invention relates to a portable 1nclosure or tent especially designed for use as abath house, one of the objects of the invention being to provide a structure of this character which can be easily set up for use, does not require guy ropes or stays and which provides a clear space wlthin the inclosure free of central supports.
A further object is to provide a structure of this character which, when not in use, can be folded into acompact bundle and easily carried from place to place.
Another object is to provide afoldable top frame having simple and efficient means-for fastening it in extended position.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in, the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and. claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is clalmed, changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown. a
In said drawings 1 Figure 1 is a vertical transverse section through the structure.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the central portion of the top of thestructure.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of a portion of the top frame of the structure. I
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the meet ng ends of the sections of one of the supports.
Fig. 5 is an elevation showing the opposite side of the part shown in Fig. 4. y
Fig. 6 is a view partly in section and partly in elevation showing the engaged portions of one of the supports and the top frame.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates the upper member of a support, the same having its upper end reduced to form a stud 2 whileits lower end is connected, by a hinge 3 to the lower member 4 of the support. The lower end of Specifieationof Letters Patent.
PatentedJuly 26, 1921. 1920. Serial No. 398,232. v
the member 4 is pointed as at 5 to form a stake adapted to be forced into the ground.
posite the hinge 3 is a fastening device which can be in the form of a hook 6 adapted to engage an eye 7 connected to the upper portion of the lower member '4.
Connected to the memberl at that side opi The top frame. f the device includes a central block 8 preferably having four sides and hingedl-y connected to each of these sides is a radial arm 9 tothe outer end of which is secured an eye 10. The hinges forconnecting the arms 9v to the block 8 have been indicated at 11. To the upper surface of one of the arms 9 a holding strip 12 may be pivotally connected, as indicated at 13,
this strip being of suflicient length to extend across the block 8 and being provided, near its free end, with a transverse slot 14 adapted to receive a stud 15 extending from one of the arms 9. Thus it will be seen that the two opposed arms connected by this strip 12 will be held extended. Upward folding or buckling of the frame is thus prevented.
The covering of the device constituting the present invention is preferably made in a single piece and consists of the angular top portion 16, the connected walls 17 and the curtains or flaps 18 which constitute the closures for the open side of the device. These curtains are adapted to be held together by buttons-l9 or any other suitable means.
lVhen the device is not in use the supports up on the fabric making up the top and walls of the device.
hen it is desired to set up the device for use the arms 9 are swung outwardly and the strip12 is placed in engagement with the stud 15. The supports made up of the sections 1 and 4 are then positioned with the studs 2 withinthe eyes 10 and the points or stakes 5 are forced into the ground. The covering is then placed over'the frame thus produced and will therefore form a dressing room or bath house of ample proportions.
It is to be understood that any suitable arrangement of eyes 20 can be provided on the sections 1, these eyes being adapted to support garment hooks or the like, as shown What is claimed is:
1. A portable structure including a central block, arms hingedly connected to the respective sides of the'block and foldable together, fastening means movably connected to one of the arms and extending across the top face of the block and detachably connected to the opposed arm, said block being held by gravity in abutment with the inner ends of the arms when thelarmsare extended, foldable supports detachably engaging the outer end portions of the arms, and a fabric housing formed in one piece and comprising a top portion bearing downwardly on the arms and block, wall portions extending longitudinally of and between the supports, and flaps between two of the supports. 7
2. A portable structure including a central block, arms hingedly connected to the respective sides of the block and foldable together, fastening means movably connected ground engaging ends, a one piece fabric housing having a top portion bearing downwardly on the block and arms, wall portions extending along and between the supports, and flaps between two of the supports, and means for engaging the flaps to hold them closed. I V
In testimony that I- claim the'foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature inthe presence of two Witnesses. JAMES CARLTON HAMMOND.
