GEORGE W. WALKER, 0F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
TOOTHPICK-HOLDEB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 19, 1921.
Application flled August 30, 1920. Serial No. 406,862.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Oakland, county of Alameda, State of California, have invented a new and useful Toothpick-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to containers WlllCh are adapted to be worn or carried upon the person, and has particular reference to a toothpick or the like holder having means whereby the same may be attached to the end of a watch chain and conveniently carried in the vest pocket. 0
The primary object of the invention is t provide a combined container and holder for toothpicks which may contain a suppl of the same, and so constructed that a toothpick may be removed from the container and inserted in an aperture provided thereln and-thus used with the container comprising a handle or holder.
A further object of the invention is to so construct the device that it will offer a most pleasing article for personal wear, aside from its above mentioned use.
With these and further objects in view,
I will now proceed with a detail descriptionof the preferred embodiment of the device with reference to the illustration in the accompanying drawing. In said drawing Figure l is a side elevation, Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 Fig. 3, Fig. 3 is an end view Fig. 4 is a section on the line H Fig. 1, l i 5 is a side elevation of a modified shape, Fig. 6 is a cross section on the line 6-6 Fig. 5, and Fig. 7 is a cross section of arounded shaped modification.
The container will include either a relatively long, oval shaped shell A or an oblong shell A or a round shell A, each of which should terminate at one end in a throat or neck B made to receive a plug cap closure C which is provided with an annular flange D adapted to abut against the rim of the throat B to limit the insertion of the plug therein.
On the opposite end of the container is provided. a ring F or some other convenient means whereby the container may be attached to a Watch chain as previously men tioned.
Along one of the substantially flat sides of either the oblong or oval shaped container and on the sides of the round container, is a match scratching surface G and on the opposite side may be arranged a monogram or name plate, or surface provided for that purpose.
The size and shape of the device is immatcrial so long as it offers a relatively small container which may be carried upon the person, and the material from which it is made is of small importance, but in order to provide a most pleasing article of jewelry or the like it is suggested that it be at least silver or gold plated.
In use the toothpicks, which are shown in Fig. 2 as contained within the shell of the container, may be withdrawn when needed y by removing the closure C which according to the present illustration is threaded Within the neck, and the toothpick inserted in the opening E as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2, which will provide a holder for the same so that the toothpick may be manipulated with the container A serving as a handle.
It will be noted that the flange D on the closure C is roughened so that the closure may be easily removed.
The device is in no way limited to a toothpick holder and container, as the salient features of the same may be realized as a means of carrying matches or the like.
I claim:
1. A device of the class described, comprising a container having a closure, said closure having an opening therein adapted to receive a toothpick so that the toothpick may be manipulated with the container serving as a handle.
2. A device of the class described, comprising a container having an opening, a cap closure for said opening, said closure having an axial bore made to receive and provide a holder for a toothpick so that the toothpick may be manipulated with the container serving as a handle.
3. A device of the class described, com prising a relatively long container terminating at one end in an open throat, a 010- sure for said throat having an axial bore made to receive and provide a holder for a toothpick so that the toothpick may be manipulated with the container serving as a handle, and means on the container for attaching the same to a watch chain.
cnoner. W. WALKER.
