Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 19211,
Application filed February 13, 1920. Serial No. 358,395.
I To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that GIUSEPPE CoMBoNI, engineer, a sub'ect of the Kingdom of Italy, residing at Iilan, via Principe Amedeo 11, Italy, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Electric Switches, for which he has filed an application in Italy Feb. 6, 1919, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to an electric switch of the type wherein a hand lever operates a switching contact through the intermediary of a spring thereby securing a snap action in the switching operation.
The invention comprises a new arrangement of parts as will be particularly described hereafter and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing are represented by way of example two forms of construction of the invention.
Figure 1 is a plan View of the first form.
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the second form.
Referring first to Fig. 1, on an insulating base A are pivotally mounted the levers --l-2 by means of the screws -3-4-.
Lever 1-- is provided with the handle 5 and is angularly movable between the stops formed at the ends of a guiding slot 6 under the bridge plate-7.
The levers are joined to one another by means of a coil-spring 8 having its ends secured to projecting pins -10-11 on said levers.
By displacing lever -1- angularly the points 101l will take different positions in the deformable triangle 410 11-- and the side 1011- may be either at the right or the left of pivot 4:-. In the first instance lever 2 will be snapped into contact with spring plate 12- in the second instance it will be snapped against a stop 12"--.
One of the terminals of the described unipolar switch may be formed by means of a washer and a nut connected at the rear of the base A- to one or the other of screws --3-4 v The other terminal is formed in the same manner on screw 13 which secures the plate -12 to the base A. In the form of construction represented 1n Fig. 2: both levers 1 and 2 are plvoted on the same screw 3 secured to the base.
The spring 8 is secured by one end to a pm projecting from the base, while the other end is secured to the pin 11 projecting from the hand lever -1.
Two further springs -8-8" are provided having their ends secured respectively to pin --11 of the lever -1 and to pins 15- of lever plate 2. Slots 14 14- are provided in said plate to allow movement of the pins 1111-.
12-12- are contact-spring-plates secured to the base by means of terminal screws 13--13'.
The operation of this switch is substantially the same as that of the other. The form described represents a unipolar double throw switch of which screw 3- is a common terminal.
I .claim:
An electric switch of the character described comprising a base, two levers connected on a common pivot secured to said base, a spring having one end secured to said base and the other end secured to a point of one of said levers, two additional springs having a common end secured to a common point of one of said levers and the other ends secured to two 'ditl'erent points of the other lever, and symmetrically arranged contact spring plates into which to snap said second mentioned lever, the common pivot of the lovers being a common terminal of the double throw switch.
In testimony whereof I aflix signature. INo. GIUSEPPE CUWONI.
