oonzenvnrron BACKING am) rosr ronnnrrnrcm ANTERIOR TEETH Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 28, 1%)21.
Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,122.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HUGO SoHIoK, a c1t1 zen of the United States, residing in the city of St. Louis and btate of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Combination Backing and Post for Artificial Anterior Teeth, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improved con1- bination backing and post for artificial an terior teeth crowns and has for its object to provide a backing in combination. with a post which will be s1mple in construction and complete in parts to enable a dentist to do all fitting in the patients mouth thereby facilitating manipulations in working on Richmond crowns as no impressions and bite are necessary, as now required with old style backings without root posts.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the improvements which I will now describe in the following specification and finally point out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawlngs forming a part of this specification wherem like characters of reference denote similar parts throughout the several views:
Figure l, is an enlarged s1de elevatlon of a crown made with my improved backing and post.
Fig. 2, is a sectional elevation thereof.
Fig. 3, is a rear elevat on thereof.
Fi 4, is a front elevation thereof.
Fig. 5, is a side elevation of the backing and root-post.
F ig. 6, is a rear elevation thereof.
Fig. 7 is a detail of the backing blank before the root-post has beenapplied thereto.
Fig. 8, is a horizontal section taken on line 8-8 of Fig. 4. I
Fig. 9, is a perspective view of a facing.
Fig. 10, is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of backing.
Referring to the drawings, the reference character 1 designates the root of a natural tooth and 2a cap for the style of crown illustrated.
3 represents an artificial tooth facing which is provided with a pair of su1table pins 4 extending from the rear face of the facing.
The backing consists of a backing-plate 5.
The backing-plate 5 is preferably, although not necessarily provided with a centrally arranged neck, or extension 6 united with the plate 5 by means of the connection 7.
A suitable root-post 8 is fixed to the rear face of the backing plate 5 by means of suitable rivets 9, and by welding or soldering, if desired.
That portion of the root-post 8 extending above the upper edge of the backing'plate 5 is encircled or covered by means of the neck extension 7 of the blacking-plate 5 when a covering for the post is desired. The meeting edge 10 of the neck extension 7 may be soldered or otherwise suitably united, as is manifest.
The backing plate 5 is provided with suitable pin receiving openings 11. In applying the facing 3 to the backing, the pins 4 are adapted to engage in the openings 11 and be cle iched upon the back face of the backing-plate 5, as clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 8.
In Fig. 10, I have shown a slight n1odification. of the backing. The plate instead of being provided with the-root-post shown in Fig. 2, having the covering 6, is in the form of a suitably shaped post 12 having an off-set shoulder 18 engaging the top edge 14: of the backing-plate 5.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the several parts can be very cheaply assembled and united.
The many advantages of the herein described backing and post will readily suggest themselves to those skilled in the art to which it appertains.
What I claim is 1. in artificial tooth, comprising a porcelain front having a plurality of anchor pins extending from the rear face thereof, a backing having an opening to receive each anchor pin to be clenched upon the back face of the backing, and a root-post fixed to the back of the backing and extending beyond the upper edge of the backing-plate.
2. An artificial tooth, comprising a porcelain front having a plurality of anchor pins extending from the rear face thereof, a backing having an opening to receive each anchor pin to be clenched upon the back face of the backing, a root-post fixed to the back of thebacking and extending beyond the upper edge of the backing-plate, and a covering for said root-post.
'3. A backing for artificial teeth facings having rearWardly extending anch0r-pins,
5 comprising a backing-plate having openings to receive the pins of said facing, and a rootpost having a shoulder to engage the upper edge of the backing-plate secured to the rear ing plate.
V In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to the specification.
HUGO SCHICK.
