Lnrnvnn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Plymouth, in the county of Jayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improve ments in Magazines for Guns, of which-the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to guns and more particularly to that type in which the shot or projectile is introduced laterally into the firing barrel adjacent to the breech.
It is the object of the invention to provide a magazine for the shot which is attachable externally of the barrel and therefore can be removed when it is desired to use the gun as a single shot. It is a further object to obtain a construction which is in no wise detrimental to the appearance of the gun and which is easily loaded and which has various other advantages as hereinafter set forth.

In the present state of the art of spring air gun constructions it is usual to form a false barrel within which is arranged a true barrel of smaller diameter and with certain constructions a magazine is placed in the space between the true barrel and false barrel. This magazine is usually attached to the true barrel and the shots are discharged therefrom through an aperture in the barrel near the rear end thereof. Whenever the magazine is to be refilled it is necessary to remove the true barrel so as to obtain access to the magazine. With my improved construction instead of placing the magazine within the false barrel it is arranged on the portion of the gun in rear thereof and usually designated as the frame. Furthermore, this magazine is placed in alinement with the rear sight which is generally raised above the level of the frame and barrel and therefore said magazine forms no obstruc- Specification of Letters Patent.

In detail, A is the frame portion of the gun, B is the false barrel projecting forward therefrom, C is the rear sight extending upward from the frame at a point adjacent to the junction of the same with the stock D. E is the true barrel arranged axially within the false barrel and F is the breech block or abutment into which the true barrel is connected. The magazine G is preferably formed of a sheet metal channel member which is arranged along the top of the frame and is secured by a tongue H at the forward end thereof engaging a strap or other fastening device I upon the frame or false barrel. The rear end of the magazine extends to the sight member C and is secured in alinement therewith by ears J, preferably struck up from the frame, together with a screw K passin through said ears and the magazine. Wit in the magazine is arranged the follower L which is secured to one end of a spring M, the opposite end of which abuts against the forward end of the magazine. A tab N projects outward from the follower through a slit between the magazine and the frame, so that by moving this tab the spring may be compressed and the follower withdrawn to a point where the tab engages a notch O in the magazine.
This will uncover an opening P in the side of the magazine which is of suflicient size for the introduction of the shot. Q is an aperture through the frame and false barrel and extending through the breech block F into the true barrel E, said aperture registering with the forward end of the channel in the magazine.
WVith the construction as described the gun may be used either with or without the magazine. Where it is used as a single shot gun the shot are introduced through the aperture Q directly into the barrel. On the other hand if the magazine is desired it may be attached by engaging the tongue H with the strap I and securing the rear end to the ears J by the screw K. When in place the follower L is drawn backward by the tab N and the spring M is compressed while the follower passes in rear of the aperture'P. The magazine may then be loaded with shot, after which the-follower is released to press against the column of shot so as to feed them successively through the aperture Q into the barrel.
What I claim as my invention is V 1. In a gun, the combination with a barrel, of a frame to which said barrel is attached, and a U-shapedstrap secured upon one of said members, or a magazine communicating with the interior of said barrel and arranged outside said frame adjacent thereto, the forward end-of saidmagazine slidably engaging between said U-shaped strap and said member to which said strap is secured. 2. In a gun, the combination with a barrel, a frame to which said barrel is attached, and a U-shaped strap upon one of said mem bers, of a channel shaped magazine arranged outside of said frame adjacent thereto and communicating with said barrel, said magazine cooperating with said frame to form a chamber for the gun projectiles and slidably engaging at its forward end between said strap and said member to which said strap is secured; and means for detachably securing the rear end of said magazine to said frame.
