Description
C. LEGAB.
Bed-Bug Traps for Bedsteads.
AM PHoroi/nfasRAP//lc co. Ny q osaofewf Panam) UNITED STATES PATENTOFFICE.
CONSTANTINE LEGAB, OF PITT'SBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMEN'I'l IN BED-BUG TRAPS FOR BEDSTEADS.
`.Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,936, dated April 15, 1873 3 application filed February 10, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
.Beit known that I, GoNs'rANTINE LEGAB, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Bed-Bug Trap for Bedsteads; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing` forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a longitudinal vertical section through line w of Fig. 2, and Fig. 2 is a crosssection through line y y of Fig. l.
rlhe invention consists in improving the construction of bedsteads, as hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawing, A represents a bedstead having the posts a, sides al, head a2, and foot a? made of any suitable shape or form. B is a caster-wheel pivoted in a frame, b, which is placed on the lower end of each post, and has a threaded shank that screws up and into the bottom end thereof. On each of these shanks, between the casterwheel and post, is placed a centrallyperforated cup, C, in which may be poured a liquid of some kinda viscid one being preferable. D is a cover for bedsteads, which projects over the same on every side, so that the bedstead cannot touch the side walls of a room, and thus furnish access therefrom to the bed-bugs, and which is also provided with a surrounding channel way, d, filled with liquid to catch any bugs that drop upon the top and seek to crawl to aposition over the bed, and then drop themselves thereupon.
By thus providing a new bedstead, or an old one that has been thoroughly cleaned, with `my channeled projecting cover and leg-cups no bed-bugs can ever reach the bed or body of bedstead.
For the purpose of applying these covers D readily to any bedsteads I attach thereto the perforated blocks E, which t upon tenons f of detachable uprights F 5 or it may be of posts a. The uprights F have the bifurcation or prongs f1 fl, which straddle the'foot and head boards a2 a and the opposite long vertical slots f2 f2, through which pass the clampscrews f3, by which the uprights may be securely fastened at different points of elevation.
In order to adapt a single cover to bedsteads of dierent size and dimensions the blocks E have dovetailed grooves on the upper side, and slide upon the correspondingly-constructed guide-pieces F F, which are themselves not only dovetailed 011 the sides, but beveled on the ends ff, so that they can be moved in ways G G.
By this construction the cover can be tted conveniently on a bedstead which differs both in length and breadth.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The independent bifurcated uprights F F', slotted and adjustable on screws f3, combined with cover D, foot-board a2, and headboard a3, as and for the purpose described.
2. The blocks E, having dovetailed grooves, and the tongued guide-pieces F movable in ways G, combined Awith the cover D and uprights F, as and for the purpose set forth.
GONSTANTINE LEGAB.
