Description

E. C. ROGERS. URINA R Y APPARATUS. APPLICATjON FILED MAR. 26 1921.
Patented May 24, 1921.
UNITED sTATss EDXVARD C. ROGERS, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI URINARY APPARATUS.
Application filed March 26, 1921.
To aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, EDWARD C. Rooms a citizen of the United States, residing at t. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinary .Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in surgical appliances, and particularly to urinary apparatuses.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a simple device of this character which can be comfortably worn by a patient in bed, and which will obviate the use of the ordinary bed-pans.
Another object is to improve the construction of a device of this character, so that the device can be easily taken apart to be cleaned.
Other objects and advantages will be ap parent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view through a portion of the device.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the bandage.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional detail of the projecting member of the bandage.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents a belt formed of webbing, which includes the abdomen section 11, and the back section 12 these sections being adjustably connected by the straps 12 carried by the abdomen section. In the lower portion of the section 11 is formed an opening 11 to permit the protrusion of the scrotum. The section 11 has formed centrally therethrough an opening 13. and around which is secured the hard rubber nipple 14, the wall of the opening being held within an internal groove 15 in the nipple by means of a ring 16. Mounted on the nipple is a soft rubber nozzle 17, the outer end of which has vsecured therein an Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 24, 1921.
Serial No. 456,032.
internally threaded nipple 18. Screwed into this nipple 18 is an externally threaded nip; ple 19 to which is secured a flexible hose 20. The opposite end of the hose is detachably secured in the neck 21 of a receptacle 22. This receptacle may be of any desired size, style, or material, the one shown being a soft rubber bag similar to a hot water bottle.
The hose is made up of sections 23, 2d and 25, the sections 23 and 2 1 being connected by a hard rubber, or other stiff elbow 26, while the opposite end of the section 2% is connected to an elbow 27. The section 25 connects the elbow 27 with the receptacle 22.
Secured to the sections 11 and 12 is a shoulder suspension device 28, this device having the usual adjusting buckles 29.
Leg straps 30 are also secured to the sections 11 and 12 to prevent the sections slipping above the patients waist.
The belt is adjusted about the patients hips so that the organ is disposed within the nipple 14. and the nozzle 17, and the bag or receptacle 22 placed on the floor at the side of the bed. The urine will pass from the nozzle 1? through the hose 20 into the bag. The section 23 of the hose extends toward the foot of the bed, the section 24- to the edge of the bed, under the patients leg, while the section 25 extends from the side of the bed down to the bag 22.
This appliance is particularly adapted for use with patients that are unable to move, or be moved, or such as have undergone abdominal operations and must lie on their backs.
The device is also adapted for use with adults or children who may have weakness or other ailments of the kidneys.
lVhile I have described the device for use with invalids, it will be understood that with slight modifications, the device can be adapted for wear during the day by adults or children with kidney ailments, provision being made for suitably supporting the bag 22, so that it can be carried about on the person.
