Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN H. FLYNN, JR., OF CINCINNATI. OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE EUREKA TACKLE BLOCK COMPANY, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
PULLEY-BLOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 24, 1921.
Application filed March 1, 1920. Serial No. 362,491.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN H. FLYNN, J11, a citizen of the United States, residing in Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Pulley-Blocks, of
' which the following is a specification.
An object of my invention is to produce an improved pulley block construction in which indestructibilty and greater strength is attained, also a less weighty construction than heretofore and in which greater economy of cost is also attained.
This and other objects are attained in the pulley construction described in the following specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which:
Figure 1 is a transverse view of the single pulley block shown in Fig. 1, taken on line 1-1 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the single pulley block shown in Fig. 1, taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a detail of the pulley block shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
My invention, as illustrated in Figs 1 to 3 inclusive shows a form in which the strap 16 shown in Fig. 3 is cast into a block 17 with a pulley l8 rotatively mounted on a spindle 19 located in the strap bearings and in the casting of the block. In order to hold the strap and block inseparable and in interlocked relation with one another, I provide lugs or ears 20 and 21 on the sides of the strap branches 22 and 23, which when the casting is made are embedded within the metal of the casting as shown in Fig. 2. At the top of the strap a hook 24 is provided, being placed over the strap before the castng is made and is embedded in a core durmg the casting operation. At the bottom of the strap branches a bolt 25 is passed, a thimble 26 or other desired rope accessory being located on the bolt.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is 1. A pulley block construction comprising a substantially U-shaped sheet metal strap having lugs extending from the sides thereof, rope connecting elements at the ends of the strap, and a block having the material thereof embedding the lugs and sides of the strap between the rope connecting elements attatched thereto.
2. A pulley block construction comprising a metal strap having lugs extending from the edges thereof, a block having the material thereof cast upon the strap and substantially surrounding the lugs thereof, and rope connecting means at the ends of the block and upon the strap.
In witness whereof, I afix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN H. FLYNN, JR.
