MEANS FOR BUILDING CONCRETE STRUCTURES.
, Specification of Letters Patent. Patentetl lvIay 3, 1921,
Application filed July 21, 1919. Serial No. 312,327.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IRA ABRAM, a c1t1- zen of the United States, and aresident of Dugger, county of Sullivan, and State of Indiana, have invented a certain new and useful Means for Building Concrete Structures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, in which like numerals refer to like parts.
This invention relates to a construction for facilitating the building of hollow or concrete structures, such as silos, cistern walls and the like, whereby the walls will be formed of concrete and built up of any desired thickness or diameter in a rapid and convenient manner, whereby the sectional walls or shells may be successively lifted to successfully form @superimposed portions of the wall, and further to provide a suitable working platform which will be elevated and lowered with the forms so as to always be at the proper elevation for the handling thereof.
Referring to the drawings, which are made a part of this application, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the construction. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a plan view looking down. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a portion of the form.
In the drawings there is shown a tower 10 having a mast 11 secured therein and ex tending upwardly from the top thereof. The side braces 12 are secured to the standards of the tower for the purpose of stabilizing it, said towerbeing so constructed that it may be collapsible and portable so that it may be rapidly set up on the site upon which the silo is to be constructed. Mount- 3 'ed at the bottom of the tower there is a shaft 13 upon which a large drum 14 is loosely mounted. The smaller drums 15 are secured on said shaft at each end thereof and controlled by the hand brakes 16. The drum 14 is operated by any suitable source of power through the cable 17 which winds about said drum, and extends upwardly over the pulley 18 mounted at the top of said tower in the mast 11, and over a pulley 19 supported on said mast by the arm 20 and the cable 21, so as to elevate and lower the bucket 22 for lifting the concrete or other building material. The arm 20 is mounted on a collar surrounding the'mas't 11 so as to be turned to any position.
Slidably mounted on the uprights of the tower 10 there is a frame 23 which carries a platform 24 upon which the workmen building the structure are carried. The platform 24 is supported by the cables 25 which extend upwardly and over the pulleys 26 mounted at the top of said tower, and then down and around the small drums 15. The platform 24 is elevated on the tower or lowered to any desired position by throwing in the clutch 27, through the operation of the clutch lever 28, whereby the drum 14 will turn the shaft 13 when operated. When the platform is at its proper elevation the brakes 16 are applied and the drum thrown out of engagement so that it will be free to operate for lifting the bucket 22 and building material.
The forms 30 are opened at 31 so as to spread and disengage the concrete after it has set, as at 32, and. is then ready to be elevated to a new position, as shown in Fig. 1. The form 30 is elevated by means of a cable 33 which passes over a pulley 35 supported by the arm 36 secured on top of the tower, and then over the pulley 37, around the pulleys 38 secured tothe base of the tower and then up to the bottom of the platform 24, as shown in Fig. 2. By means of this arrangement it will be seen that the engaging end of the cable 33 maintains the same relation to the platform 24 as it is elevated and lowered, so that when the form to be elevated by the cable 33 is at the lower part of the tower, the platform is lowered, and the workmen carried by it are in position to handle the form 30, releasing it from the concrete and attaching the cable 33.
The platform and workmen are then elevated by the operation of the drums 15, and the form carried up with them to a new position where they are then in a position to mount the form for the further building of the concrete wall. By using three forms as shown herein continual operation of the building may he proceeded with without delay, as by the time the concrete is placed in the top form, the concrete in the lower form is set so that the form can be removed and elevated to a superimposed position.
The invention claimed'is:
1. A structure for building silos and the like, consisting of a tower, removable forms for molding th material surrounding said tower, a platform slidably mounted on said tower, a cable having one end secured to said platform and the other end removably attached to said forms for hoisting'them in position, and means for operating said cable, said cable being so arranged whereby said platform and forms will remain in constant relation with each other and said platform may be lowered and elevated with each new setof forms to be used. c
2. A structure for building silos and the like, consisting of a tower, removable forms for molding the material surrounding said tower, a platform slidably mounted on said tower for carrying workmema cable having one end secured to said platform and passing about a pulley block at the bottom of th tower and near the top thereof and relation with each other and said platform Y may be lowered and elevated with each new set of forms to be used. I 1
In witness whereof I-have hereunto affixed my signature.
