EARL C. CLEARWATEB, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
SANITARY ICE-CREAM-CONE PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 26, 1921.
Application filed April 20, 1920. Serial No. 375,365.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL C. CLnARWA'rER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Sanitary Ice- Cream-Cone Protectors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is a sanitary ice cream cone protector, and the objects and nature of the invention will be readily understood from the following description of the accompanying drawings in which;
Figure 1 is a plan view of the pattern from which the protector is made.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the protector.
Fig. 3 is a side elevation thereof showing an ice cream cone in the protector in dotted lines. I
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a IIlOdI- fied form of the invention.
F ig. 5 is a perspective view of a still further modification of the invention.
Fig. 6 is a perspective fragmentary view of a still further modification of the invention.
The improved protector is, preferably, formed of paper, the pattern from which the protector is made being shown in Fig. l as comprising a sector 1 of a circle having a strip 2 extending radially from the arcuate edge 3 of said sector, preferably, midway of said arcuate edge. A sector 4 of a circle is provided at the opposite end of strip 2, the strip, preferably, connecting to this latter sector midway of the arcuate edge 5 thereof and extending radially rela" tive to said sector.
The sectors 1 and 4 and the strip 2 are. preferably, a single sheet of paper, and the sector 1 is approximately a quadrant of a circle, while the sector 4 which is, preferably, a sector of a circle of smaller diameter covers approximately three-fourths of the area of said circle. The pattern is adapted to be folded so that the radial edges 6 of the sector 1 are adjacent one another, and so that the radial edges 7 of the sector 4 are adjacent one another, thereby providing conical members connected bythe strip 2.
The sector 1 is, preferably, of such size that the cone formed thereby will approximately fit over a usual ice cream cone, and the cone formed by sector 4 is of such size as to provide a top fitting over the top of said ice cream cone.
The edges 6 and 7 of the cones thus formed may be connected in any preferred manner as by overlapping the edges 6 and 7 respectively and securing said overlapped edges by a suitable adhesive medium provided upon one of said edges as shown at 8.
The portion 9 of the sector 1 at the cen ter of the circle, of which the pattern is a sector, may be bent upwardlv as shown in F ig. 3 when a cone has been formed from the pattern to provide a lower closure for said cone, or if desired the portion 9 of the sector may be cut away along the are 10, as shown in Fig. 1, to provide an open lower end for the protecting cone.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 4, the protecting cone for the top of the ice cream cone and the strip 2 are dispensed with and the protecting cone 1 is, preferably, of crimped paper, and its overlapping edges 6 are, preferably, connected by pin fasteners 11.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 5, a protecting cone 1 is provided formed from a circular sheet of pa per bent up from its center and provided with crimped portions 12 arranged to form a conical protector.
In the modification of the invention illustrated in Fig. 6 the upper edge of the conical protector is provided with a cut-out portion 13 to provide a space for readily grasping the protector when it is folded flat before using the same.
Various changes may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
A blank comprising sectors of disks and a strip connecting the same at their curved edges, said sectors being curved to bring together their radial edges for forming cones joined by a connecting strip.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
EARL C. CLEARWATER.
