" Patented A r; 12, 1921.
Application filed August 7, 1917. Serial No. 184,806.
To'aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Nrns J. A. WAHLBERG,
a subject of the King of Sweden, and a resident of Pittsburghfln the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have in vented a new and useful Improvement in Structures for Trolley-Wire Fittings, of which the following is a specification.
wire splicers, frogs, strain supporters and the like, in which the apparatus is subject to considerable wear and also deterioration because of arcing between the trolley wheel and the trolley-line fittings, and it has for its object to provide apparatus of the character designated which shall be simple and inexpensive to manufacture, durable in service, adapted to grip the wire firmly, and embodying a minimum number of loose parts to be handled by the linemen.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of a trolley-frog constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the apparatus shown in Fig. 1, the section being taken along the line IIII, of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the apparatus shown in Fig, 1. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the approach member used in apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 5 is a side elevational view of a portion of a trolley-wire splicer embodying invention.
eretofore, it has been customary in constructing trolley line fittings, such, for example, as wire splicers and frogs, to either construct the entire device of some composition alloy, which is very expensive when the apparatus is of large size, or to attach an proach members may be renewed when pit-' ted or worn out.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, a main body portion 1 is provided with approach members 2, into which a trolley wire 3 extends. The approach member 2 is provided with a clamping portion 4 which surrounds the trolley wire and a shoulder 5, which is adapted to bear upon the upper surface of the trolley wire 3. The main body portion 1 is provided with a'groove 6, which is adapted to receive the trolley wire 3, and also with a lug 7 which projects. over the groove 6. The lug 7 is gages the shoulder 5 of the approach member 2, clamping it against the trolley wire 3 which rests in the groove 6 of the main body portion 1.
While I have shown and described partic-v ular forms of my invention, changes may be effected therein without departing from the spirit and scope thereof, as set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
adapted to receive a set screw8 which en- My inventlon relates to trolley-line fittings and it has special relation to trolley- 1. A trolley-line device comprising a body member having a groove for the reception of a trolley conductor and an integral interiorly-threaded lug projecting laterally over said groove, a renewable approach member havlng a portlon dlsposed in said groove between said lug and said conductor, and a set screw in said lug for clamping said approach member in position.
2. A trolley-line device comprising'a body member for the reception of a trolley con-ductor having an interiorly-threaded lug extending transversely with respect to said conductor, a renewable approach member having a portion disposed between said lug and said conductor, and a set screw in said lug for clamping said approach member in position. 3
3. A trolley-line device for disposition at an intermediate portion of a trolley conductor comprising a body member having a portion disposed over the conductor, a renewable approach member having a portion disposed between the conductor and said first portion, and means cooperating between said portions for holding the approach member in positions 4-. A trolley-line device for a groove for the reception of the conductor and an integral portion. extending across said groove, a renewable approach member, and means cooperating between said integral portion and said approach member for securingthe latter in position.
disposition at an intermediate portion of a trolley conductor comprising a body-member having 5. A trolley-line device comprising a body 7 doctor, and means cooperating between said. member having a groove for the receptlon portions for olarnplng the approach memof a conduotor and an integral portion exher in position. 10
tending laterally'over said groove from one In testimony whereof, I have hereunto 5 side thereof, a renewable approachmember subscribed my -narne this 20th day of July,
having a portion extending into said groove 1917.
between said. integral portion andthe con-. NILS J. A. WAHLBERG.
