COMBINATION ASH-SIFTER AND GARBAGE-CAN.
igs'raeea Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mall. 29, 1921.
Application'filed February 16, 1918. Serial No. 217,638.
clear and exact descri otion of the invention 7 7 7 such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The invention embodies in a single entity an ash sifter and a garbage can of a special construction which is designed for use in households in cities and towns as well as on farms. The same lid or cover fits both the ash sifter and the garbage can so that the garbage can may be used by the farmer as feed pail or bucket.
In the drawings Figure 1, represents a vertical section of the assembled parts.
Fig. 2, is a fragmentary view showing the formation of the margin of the cover.
Fig. 3, is a fragmentary view showing the joint for uniting the sifter receptacle, and its bottom.
Fig. 4, is a view showing construction of one of the feet for the garbage vessel. 7
it, represents a garbage vessel which is formed in any desired manner. This vessel is provided with feet, at, having reversely ent ends, a, a one of which engages the side of the vessel, and the other of which projects from the bottom thereof. These feet are held in place by clips, a extending over them and soldered at their ends to the bottom of the vessel.
The sifter is composed of a receptacle B, having a conical bottom, Z2, seamed on to it at Z). Within the receptacle and sustained on the bottom thereof, is a sifter which is a circular dished piece made of metal lathing, or expanded metal, 1), this Sifter being held in position by clips, d, soldered or otherwise secured to the inner wall of the receptacle, D. The bottom of the receptacle is formed of one piece of metal bent in COIllQfll form and seamed together at its meetlng edges, the seam being reinforced by indentations, 03'.
The cover or the lid, 0, is also composed of a single piece of metal bent to conical form, the meeting edges being soldered together and the margin being doubled and extended inward and crimped to form a vertical circumferential flange within the margin of the cover. The cover is adapted to fit into and upon both the garbage vessel and the receptacle of the ash sifter. The cover is of course provided with a handle for its manipulation.
It will be observed that the conical formation of the bottom, of the receptacle, B, prevents the' dust from the ashes, falling into the vessel, A, from escaping to the atmosphere. The sifting of ashes by the device is therefore practically dustless so that it may be accomplished in the parlor, the kitchen or elsewhere without the soiling of the en vironment. The feet are diametrically disposed, and serve as fulcra on which the device maybe tilted during the shaking opera tion. I
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i a
A combination ash sifter and garbage can,
having a lower retaining vessel, a superime posed receptacle having flange for engaging the upper margin of said vessel, a funnel shaped open bottom for said receptacle constituting a continuation of said flange, a sifter in said receptacle and cover having a flange which is adapted to sustain said cover on the upper margin of-the vessel or on the upper margin of the receptacle.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. enoiten F. BROWN.
