JEROME W. WETMORE, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN RAIN-WATER CUT-OFFS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,268, dated March 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEROME W. WETMOR of Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improve-- braces simply a change in that invention in respect to the shaft, lever, or handle for turning the chute. The general construction of my cut-ofi' is like that of VVetmore and Avery.
In the accompanying drawing, A A represent the greater part of the narrow sides of the box of the cut-off; B, the greater part of the top of the box, a narrow strip toward the observer being cut away; 0, the side of the inlet-pipe, opposite to the observer D and E, the like opposite sides of the outlet-pipes; F G R S, the lever or handle of the chute for changing it; H Z J K L, the chute with the side toward the observer corresponding with J R removed; I 1, points where the handle F Gr passes through the top of the box; N the bridge partition on which the chnteH Z rests. The chute as described is placed in position to throw the water into the side pipe E. F G S R, the position of the handle; and H Z J K L, the position of the chute when they are changed to throw the water into the discharge-pipe D. This change is made by drawing upward on F G, and pressing at the same time lightly toward the inlet-pipe G. 1 G is bent to tit around the inlet-pipe.
The advantages of a handle of this form and position are, first, the freedom from leakingat the opening into the box; second, the favorable application of power to change the position of the chute so that its motion will not be prevented by non-use and rust; and third, the facility for repairing, and its not be ing liable to get out of repair.
1 claim as myinvention- The handle F G R S of the chute of the rainwater cut-ofi attached to its upper end, and passingthrough the cover B of the box, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
JEROME W. WETMORE.
