Wl-ENER. VANITY CASE FOR HANDBAGS. YAPPLICATION FILED JUNE 21, 1920.
Patnted Feb. 8,1921.
mam/r01? MAX WIENER WITNESSES A TTORIVEYS MAX WIENER, or ivnw YORK, n. v.
VANITY-CASE FOR HANDBAGS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1921.
Application filed June 21, 1920. Serial No, 390,445.
pertains more particularly to vanity cases adapted to be permanently secured within a hand bag.
It is the primary object of the present in vention to construct a vanity case in such a manner that the same is permanently secured within a hand bag.
It is a further object of the present in vention to pivotally mount a vanity case within a hand bag in such a manner that movement of the vanity case about its pivotal point will eii'ect the opening of the vanity case.
With the above and other objects in view, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure l is a view in elevatlon showing the hand bag in open position, the vanity case being shown within thebag in closed position;
Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the vanity case partly in section to more clearly illustrate the manner in which it is mounted within the hand bag;
Fig. 3 is a schematic view showing the manner of operation attendant the opening of the vanity case.
Referring more particularly to the draw.
ings, the hand bag comprises two frame members 5, pivotally secured together as at 6, and a bag or receptacle 7. These parts may be of any desired construction and in the present case are shown as formed from metal, the bag being formed of chain mesh. Secured to one of the frame members 5 and extending transversely thereof, is a bar 8, and said bar 8 is slightly spaced with respect to the frame, as indicated by the reference character 9 in Figs. 2 and 3. The bar 8 is either formed integral with the frame members 5 or separately and rigidly secured thereto, said bar being provided with a downwardly disposed ear or the like 10. I v
'The vanity case 11. is pivotally mounted by means of a pin or the like 12, which passes through. the car 10 of the bar 8, the I vanity case 11 being provided with cars 13 for engagement with the ends of the pin 12. By this means, it will be seen that the vanity case 11 is pivotally mounted within the bag frame. The cover of the vanity case 11 is provided with a thumb piece 15, and said thumb piece 15 is projected upwardly as clearly shown in Fig. 2 in order that it may be readily grasped to open the vanity case. This manner, however, of opening the vanity case when the same is secured within a bag in the present manner, has its disadvantages, and to facilitate the opening of the vanity case, the thumb piece 15 is projected sufficiently beyond the cover of the vanity case to permit of its engagement with the trans verse bar 8 when the vanity case is rocked about its pivotal point.
In Fig. 8 isshown the operation of the several parts when the vanity case is rocked about its pivotal point to open the lid, and this operation is as follows:
The vanity case is rocked about its pivotal point by the insertion of a finger beneath the bottom of the case, and the latter is lifted vertically until the thumb piece 15 engages the rigid bar 8. -Upon further movement of the vanity case about its pivotal point,it will be apparent that the vanity case will be opened and the lid will drop about its pivotal point to permit of ready access to the interior of the vanity case.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that the present invention provides means whereby a vanity case may be permanently secured within a hand bag and that the opening of the vanity case is readily effected by movement of the vanity case about its point of attachment to the bag.
What is claimed is:
1. The combination with a hand bag, of a vanity case pivotally suspended within the hand bag, and means whereby a movement of the vanity case about its pivotal point automatically-opens said case.
2. In combination with a hand bag, a vanity case, a rigid bar for pivotally mounting said vanity case within the hand bag, and means formed on the vanity case and adapted to be moved into engagement with said rigid bar by swinging the vanity case about its pivotal point to efiect an opening of the vanity case. a
The combination with a hand bag, comprising a pair of hinged frame members,
comprising a pair of hinged frame members,
and a bag supported on said frame members, of a bar carried by one of said frame members a depending ear on the bar, a pin mounted in said ear a vanity case pivotally 15 mounted on and normally depending from said pin, said vanity ease comprising a pair of hinged members, and a lug carried by one member adapted to engage the said'bar and 7 open the vanity case when the vanity case is 20 moved on said pin.
