Description
Patented Feb. 1, 1921..
I N V E N TOR. Jerry Ee/ges gal 4v A TTORNEY.
OFFICE.
JERRY REIGES, OF WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
SILVERWARE-CLEANER.
Application filed. flctober 13, 1919.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JERRY Barons, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVorces ter, county of Vvorcester, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Silverware-Gleam ers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in silver ware cleaners, and particularly to that class of such devices in which the knives, spoons or forks are cleaned between two elastic cleaning aws.
It is the principal object of the invention to provide a cleaner of simple and mor pensive construction in which the described. operations may be performed in the least possible time and with the least possible expenditurc of labor.
lVith this and other objects in view, the invention consists in an improved silver ware cleaner of this class, the construction arrangement, and combination of the parts of which will be hereinafter more fully described and afterward specifically set forth in the claims.
In the accompanying drawing- Figure 1 is a front view of the device con structed according to the present invention, parts being broken away.
Fig. 2 is a side view thereof partly in section on line 2--2 of Fig. 1.
Like numerals mark the same parts in all. the figures of the drawings.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 10 indicatesthe frame of the device secured in a handle 11. l- lookshaped guides 12, 12 are provided at both sides of the frame for tension springs 13 and 13 resting upon the bar M of the frame.
The guides swing at a distance above said bar 14.
To these guides are secured an upper stationary arcuate jaw 15, and a lower arcuate movable jaw 16 supported by the upper end of said springs 13. The lower jaw 16 can be depressed by the intermediary of a handle lever 1T, secured to the uprights of the frame .10 between the hook guides 12 and the side of the frame 10. The rectangularly cent ends of this lever are disposed in front of the device to form a loop by the depression of which toward the handle 11 against the tension of springs 13, the lower jaw can execute 3. limited downward motion for allowing the introduction of a knife or fork to be cleaned between both jaws which for this Specification of Letters Patent.

purpose may be covered with felt or any other suitable material. I
Above the upper jaw a holder or frame 18 is secured in the frame 10, upon the lower bar of which the ends of three or more strong U shaped leaf springs 19, 20, and 21 are resting, encircled by coil springs 22, 23 an d 24.
Felt or similar coverings 25, 26 and 27 cover the springs so that spoons may be inserted between the springs and cleaned as will. readily be understood.
The bottom bar of the frame 18 is made in two parts, one of which is provided with a plurality of holes 28, while the other 29 is hook-shaped and adapted to enter these holes, thusallowing an adjustment of the spring tenslon.
In operation, the knives and forks to be cleaned are introduced between the two covcred jaws by slightly depressing the lower jaw by means of the handle lever 17, and manually giving the knives or forks a reciprocating motion.
Spoons a re placed between the U-shaped curved springs, larger spoons between the two upper springs, and smaller between the two lower springs.
What I claim is 'l. in a silver ware cleaner of the character described, the combination of means for scouring knives with a frame, a handle for said frame, a holder on said frame, a plurality of U-shapcd leaf springs secured with their lower ends in said holder, coiled springs encircling said U-springs, a covering for said coiled springs and means for allowing an adjustment of the tension of said springs.
2. In a silver ware cleaner of the character described, the combination of means for scouring knives with a frame, a handle for said frame, a holder on said frame, a plurality of Ushaped leaf springs secured with their lower ends in said holder, coiled springs encircling said U -springs, a felt covering for said coiled springs, and a bipartite bottom bar on said holder, one of the parts of said bar provided with a plurality of slots and a hook at the end of the second part of said bar adapted to engage the said holes for allowing an adjustment of the spring tension.
In testimony whereof I have aliixed my signature.
JERRY REIGES.
