Description
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 25' 919- Patented Jan, 25, 1921.
INVENTOR ATTO R N EYS cause srATes AUGUST GERSTNER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.-
ATTACHMENT FOR NURSING-BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 25, 1921 Application filed November 25, 1919. Serial No. 340,644.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, AUGUST GERSTNER, a citizen of the United States, and residentof the borough of Queens, in the city and State of New York, have invented new and useful Attachments for Nursiplg-Bottles, of which the following is a spec' cation.
My invention comprises a novel attachment for nursing bottles whereby the flow of liquid from the bottle to the nipple may be limited and the collapsing of the nipple may be prevented.
My invention more particularly comprises a device of the above character having a plug member adapted to be removably inserted into the mouth of the bottle, and a head .member adapted to be inserted within the nipple, the plug member being shaped to permit the liquid to flow from th'ebottle-to the nipple in restricted quantities, and the head member being shaped to preventthe collapse of the nipple without preventing the drawing of the liquid from the nipple.
A practical embodimentpf my invention is represented in the accompanying draw-' ings in which Figure 1 represents in detail longltudinal section a nursing bottle with my attachment applied thereto.
Fig. 2 represents a cross section taken in the plane of the line II--'II of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 represents a cross section taken in the plane of the line III-HI of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 represents the attachment in perspective.
The bottle is denoted byl and the usual nipple by 2. The device comprises the plug member 3 and thehead member 4. The plug member 3 is adapted to. be removably in-' serted into the mouth of the bottle. The plug member is shaped to restrict or limit the flow of the liquid from the bottle to the nipple. In the present instance this is provided for by the grooves 5 in the sides of the plug member.
The head member 4 is shaped to. prevent the collapsing of the nipple without preventing the drawing of the liquid from the nipple. In the present instance this is provided for by wings 6 forming between them the channels7.
spaced a short distance from and following as my invention, I have si This attachment is preferably made of rubber in a semi-hard condition so that the device may yield slightly to pressure to ac-' commodate itself to varying conditions.
From the above description, it will be seen. that my attachment is very sanitary in that it can be instantly removed from the bottle and nipple and thoroughly cleansed. It will also be seen that any clogging of the nipple is prevented by the limiting of the supply of liquid flowing from the bottle to the nipple and also that the nipple is prevented from collapsing without interfering with the drawing of the liquid therefrom. g
It is evident that various changes may be made inthe construction, form and composition of the device without departing fromthe spirit and scope of my invention; hence I do not wish to limit myselfto the particular embodiment herein shown, but what "I claim is:
1. An attachment for nursing bottles comprising a device having a plug member adapted to be inserted into the mouth of the bottle and a head member adapted to be inserted into the nipple, the said plug member having grooves in its sides to limit the flow of liquid from the bottle to the nipple, and the said head. member having wings extending. nearly to the end of the ni ple and spaced a short distance from and ollowing generally the contour of the walls of the nipple to prevent the collapsing of the nipple.-
2; An attachment for nursing bottles comprisingasemi-hard device havinga plug memberadapted to be inserted into the mouth of the bottle and a head member adapted to be inserted into the nipple, the said plug mem: her having grooves m its sides to limit the. flow of liquid from the bottle to the nipple, and the said head member having wings extending nearly to the end of the nipple and generally the contour of the walls of the nipple to prevent the collapsing of the nipple.
'In testimony that I claim the foregoing this twenty-fourth day of i ovember, 1919. r AUGUST GERSTNER.
