lieferring to the -numerels on the draw ings, 11 indicetes the back strep of 1 Pair of suspemlers, eomprising a single length of piefeiably elastic fabric, havin its encls f0nnecl with button-holes 12. '1 bis back stra p is lneaded t-l1rough a eenneeting memlQ/I 1.4t slmwn in detail in Fig. 4. This c0n neeting member eomprises a flat frame of suituble materiel, 2!S 'or instance n1etal 01 celluloi proviclecl at the top with two par :1llel Sluis lzi ll1(l 16, defining a cross-bar 17 between them, while 18 indicates a cross-bar Wl1l'l' eonstitutes the upper end of the 'rznne, definecl on one sde by the upper slot Below tl1e slots ancl 16 I provicle in the frame 21 pair of sl0ts 19 ancl 20, whieh liverge f10111 the bottom of the frame to- W1'd the top.
The back stmp tlneeclecl through tl1is frame as sh0wn in F igs. 1, 2 and 3. Refer- 1ing te Fig. 2, in which the parts are shown as they Will eppear when on the person, the back stmp 11 is threacled through the slet 19 f101n the inner face of the eonnecting membe1, nhenceover the enter face of (he cennecting me1nber, thenee throughthe upper slet 15 from the outer faee of the connecting member, thenee over the inner faee of the cross-bar 17 of the eonneeting n1ember, thence from the inner faee of the connecting member through the slot 16 to the 0uter faee of the connecting member, and thenee over the outer faee of the eonnecting member but 1mc ler tlie ceuise 21 of the fabrie and from the 0uter faee of the conneeting mem bei thr0ugh the second iliveiging slot 20 to the inner faee of the eonnecting member. The 1esnlt of this threeding of the fabrie, beeause of the inherent resliency of the ma teriel of which the connecting membe1 is mede, which is enhnneed by tlie menner in whieh it is sl0tted, is tl1at when 0nee tl1e beek st1ap is pleeecl in position as sh0wn in Figs. 1, 2 and 3, it is substantially ixecl in the eonnecting member under ordinery st-mins of use, it being understood of eourse t-lmt the various slots Will be of a wicltl1 pro portioned to the thiekness of the fabrie S0 that. when the fabric is thxeaclecl through the sl0ts it will not be readily slidable t-here in. The upper slot 15 of the frame is 110W- ever made somewhet wider than the parallel slot 16 because t is ntended to accommodate the shoulcler strap portlon 22 of the suspenders preferably a single length of non-elastc fabrc, whch sldes reaclly back and forth through the slot 15 in aeoordance with the varying movements of the shoulders of the wearer. This shoulcler strap portion is provicled wth the usual adjusting buckles2l in whch the ends 25 of the strap may be adjusted for length, and in the loops of the strap ends formed between the acljustng buckles 24 and the ends of the strap 22 are seeured the usual fitments 26, tl1rough wheh may be threaded the doubleended straps 27 for attaehment for buttons at l;l1e front of the trousers, all as shown in Flg. 1. The result of tl1ls construeton is that the back strap provides the neoessar; stretch and g"e to the artcle though tl1e back strap is tself immovably held in the connectng memloer; while the shoulder strap porton is readily sldalole through the conneetng member, allowng or movements o tl1e shoulders of the wearer. The movements of the shoulder strap may be acltated and wearng or chafing at the point where t sldes beneath the bar 18, be prevented by curlng over the lower edge of tl1s bar, as ndeatecl at 28 te form a wdened and rounded hearing edge.
Inasrnuoh as many changes could be made in the above constructon, and many apparently wdely different embodments of my nventon could be made without departing from the scope thereof, t is ntended that all matter contaned in the above deserpton 01 shown in the aeoompanyng drawng shall be nterpreted as llustratve and not in a lmtng sense.
It is also to be understood that the language used in the followng claims is intended t0 cover all the genere and specfio features of the nxenton heren deserloed and all statements of the scope of the inventon, which, as a matter of language, mght he said to fall therebetvveen.
