INVENTQR WW W M M U ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONIO IPAIPINI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOIR, TO A. MEGKY COMPANY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENNSYL- VANIA.
KEY ATTACHMENT FOR ELECTRIC-LAMP SOCKETS.
Application filed March 29, 1920.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANTONIO. PAPIN a subject of the King of Italy, having resided in the United States one year last past and having declared my intentions of becoming a citizen thereof, residin in the city and county of Philadelphia, tate of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful hey Attachment for Electric-Lamp Sockets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a dimming device for a rheostat lamp andconsists of a pull attachment for the key of the socket of the lamp, the same being of novel and inexpensive construction, easily applied to said key, conveniently operated, and firmly held in position.
The invention is satisfactorily lllustrated in the accompanaying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific details shown and described, as long as they are within the spirit or scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents an elevation of a key attachment for a dimming device of a rheostat lamp embodying my invention, the same being in normal condition preparatory to ap hcation to the key.
ig. 2 represents an elevation of the attachment in operative position on the key.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.
eferring to the drawings- 1 designates a coil, and 2 designates a resilient frame which is continuous of the terminal portions of said coil and consists of the upper members 3, the side members 4, and the bottom members 5, the latter in their normal positions crossing each other. Continuous of the bottom members 5 of the frame at acute angles thereto are the arms 66 which extend laterally from the terminal portions of said members 5 and have connected with their outer ends the operating chain or cords 7 pendent therefrom, the normal position of the arms, frame and coil being shown in Fig. 1. The coil frame and arms areintegral and formed preferably of steel wire which is resilient in its nature.
The device is adapted to be applied to the key on the socket of a dimming device in a rheostat lamp in which case the arms 6 are drawn down so they extend in comparatively Specification of Letters Patent.

a straight line to each other, as shown in Fig. 2, by which provision the frame 2 is widened and the convolutions of the coil 1 are expanded so that the eye formed by said 0011 is enlarged diametrically. Then the key of the lamp socket is inserted in said eye, or vice versa, and the arms 6 are let go whereby the frame 2 contracts and the arms 6 t ghten against the portion of the key opposite to the coil 1, While the latter contracts and closes on the remainder of the frame against the contiguous portions of said key, and so the device grips the key resiliently with firm hold, whereby the key may be operated by the pull of the chains or cords 7 to dim the light as required.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. An attachment for the key of the socket of an electric lamp consisting of a coil, an expansible frame of which said coil is a member, and operating arms extending from the terminals of said frame, said frame being adapted to receive said key and clamp the same resiliently.
2. A frame, a coil of which said frame is continuous, and arms extending from the terminals of said frame, said frame, coil and arn 1 members forming together a unitary resilient attachment for the key of the socket of an electric lamp.
An attachment for the key of an electr1c lamp socket, formed of a single piece of resilient material and comprising, an expans1b le coil, a frame carrying the latter and being contlnuous of the terminals thereof, and arms continuous of the terminals of said frame, said frame being so constructed as to encircle a key of an electric lamp socket and to be retained in position by the above mentioned arms.
4. An attachment for the key of an electric lamp socket, formed of a single piece of resilient material and comprising, an expansible coil, a frame of which said coil is a member and continuous of the terminals of said coil, and arms normally crossed extending from the'terminals of said frame.
