JOSEF Briana, or no"1tA-IN o rrros .COMBINEID PIsToL-vmvp sworn): 1
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented J an. 11, 1921.
Application filed September 9, 192i). Serial No. 409,122;
To all whom it may concern.
' Be it known that I, Josnr BIBER, a citizen of Poland, residing at Lorain, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Pistols and Swords, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in combined pistols and swords and has particular reference to the provision of improved means upon the guard of a sword for detachably mounting a revolver or pistol rigidly in position with the longitudinal axis of the barrel of said pistol substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the sword blade whereby the pistol or blade may be interchangeably used at will and efliciently. I
Other objects will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, and the same consists in the novel form, com bination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.
In the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 7
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a combined pistol and sword constructed in accordance with the present invention,
Fig. 2 is an edge elevationalview thereof,
Fig. 3 is a rear end elevational view of the same, and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged transverse sectional viewtaken upon line IV'IV of Fig. 1.
Referring more in detail to the several views, the present invention comprises an edged blade 5 of any preferred or usual form having a guard rigid with the rear end thereof, which guard is composed of four radially arranged and outwardly bent arms 6 which extend longitudinally and connect at their outer ends with aring 7.
One of the guard arms 6 is provided with a hand grip 8 adapted to be grasped in the usual manner when employing the device as a sword, and this arm is also provided with a forward portion extending at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the blade 5, which portion is formed to provide a sleeve 9 provided with a longitudinal slot 10, the bore of the sleeve 9 being formed to snugly receive a barrel 11 of a pistol having a longitudinal rib 12 slidably received in the groove 10 whereby said pistol is rigidly attached to the guardin the position shown clearly in Fig. 1. The pistol shown is of that. type known as a revolver, but, obviously, the same may be replaced by other forms of fire arms of this small type. The handle of the pistol is indicated at 1 3 and the trigger at 14, and it will be noted that the major portion of said pistol is thus supported within the guard in convenient position for being fired when using the device as a fire arm.
The sides of the barrel 11 are provided with screw threaded sockets 15, and stud screws 16 are passed through perforations in the sleeve 9 and threaded into the sockets 15 for positively retaining the pistol against movement relative to the arm 6 with which 1. In combination with an edged sword.
blade having a guard rigid upon the inner end thereof, said guard including a longi-' tudinal outwardly bent arm having a portion in the form of a sleeve with a groove extending from the bore thereof. a pistol withits maior portion disposed within said guard and having a barrel snugly fitting in said sleeve. said barrelbeing provided with e a longitudinal rib disposed'in said groove,
said barrel being provided with screw threaded sockets, and stud screws passing through the sleeve and threaded into said sockets. i l
2. In combination with an edged sword blade having a uard rigid upon the inner end thereof. said guard including a longitudinal outwardly bent arm having a portion in the form of a sleeve with a groove extending from the bore thereof. a pistol with its mai or portion disposed within said guard and having a barrel sniigly' fitting in said sleeve, said barrel being provided with a longitudinal rib disposed in said groove, said arm portion extending at right angles to the longitudinalaxis of said blade whereby the pistol is supported with the longitudinal axis of its barrel substantially parallel with the longitudinal was of said blade, said barrel being provided with screw threaded sockets, and stud screws passing through the sleeve and threaded into said sockets.
