To all iii/wm it may concern Be it known that I, LiLLoN B. Boron, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, in thejcounty of Onondaga and State of New' York, have invented a new and' Improved Sliding Hinge, of which the following is a specification. j

This invention relates to door hinges and it primarily has for its purpose te provide a hinge of the general' character stated, of a simple and economical construction `ifi-Which the hinge members in addition to the usual pivotal Connection, are slidably joined whereby the door may be so hung thatv it has a limited slidable movement relatively to the hinge or pivot connection, so as to provide for readily swinging thel door, when open, in a plane at rightangles to the hinge post and for easily effecting the opening and closing positions of the said door.

Furthermore, my invention comprehends an improved construction of door hinge that is especially Well` adapted for useon garage doors, the hinge connection being so designed `whereby to permit of slidingthe door or doors, when open, part Wayint the building and for holding' such door or doors inV osition against being blown cnt or shut.

.Tithl other minor objects in view, hereinafter apparent, my invention consists of an improved door hinge that embodies the peculiar features of construction andnovel arrangement `of parts, fully set out .in the following detailed description, specifically stated in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which: l

The central hinge member 6 has angled grooves 60-60, in the upper and lower edges, Whichreceive and ride onl the upper and ,lower `dove-tailed trackways m-m.

hinge members andthe central hinge members 6 in the manner shown and described, a simple and stable slidable connection of the parts is provided for and atthe same time a strong and durable, means` is developed for holding the front, the back and the central hinge members in proper alinement and against loosening up or rattling. The central hinge member 6 has an elon` gated slot 61 that extends nearly the full lengththereof and into which is received the stud 31 on the inner end of thehinge strap 3 and a similar stud 7 made -fast tothe back hinge strap .5, near the outer end thereof. The tw'opposing studs are projectedV so as to extend but half way acrossthe width of the slot 6l so that they may readilypass each other, when assembling or disconnecting ythe several hinge members to or from `the operative position.

From theA foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, thecomplete construction, the manner of, its application and the advantages of my improved hinge will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which my invention relates,

The hinge is such that, when opened, the door may be slid back some distance parallel with the front of the door frame or casing, as

`provide for a partial closure of the door across the doorway or it may be turned at right angles to the door j amb, as'indicated in Fig. 10, the several parts are so 'connected and held together that, -when once assembledthey cannot become disconnected orin any manner disarr'anged.

y A hinge of the character stated Vcomprising in combination with a pintle carrying member; an outer strap member 4having a pintle receiving knuckle, a back strap member attachable to a door and a central strap member, the latter having a slot eX- tending lengthwise thereof, the inner and the outer strap members each having a stud that projects into the slotway of the central strap member and means for holding the inner and outer and the central hinge members in slidable connection.

A hinge of the character stated comprising in combinationv with a pintle carrying member; an outer strap member havinga vpintle receiving-knuckle, a back strap member attachable to a door and a central strap member, the latter having a slot eX- tending lengthwise thereof, the inner and the outer strap members each having a stud that projects into theslotway ofthe central strap member and means for holding the inner and outer` and the central hinge members in slidable connection, thel studs of the inner and outer members being partly projected within the slotway of the central member, whereby to permit the inner and outer members sliding endwise free of each other, when the front member is disconiiected from the fixed or pintle member of the hinge.
