ALBERT J. I-IIGSON, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE J. G. WILSON CORPORATION, A CORPORATION OF VIRGINIA.
FOLDING PARTITION.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented N 30 1920 Application filed March so, 1917. Serial No. 158,762.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ALBERT J. HIGsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at J ersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Partitions, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to improvements in folding partitions and has particular reference to means in combination therewith and with the frame thereof for insuring the proper opening out of the sections of the partitions.
I have illustrated in Figure 1 in perspective partly broken away, part of'a sectional folding partition and frame therefor. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail in perspective partly broken away illustrating the principal part of my device, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of another part of the same.
4 indicates the frame of the folding partition, and 5 the hinged sections thereof.
Upon the top of the section 5, referring more particularly to Fig. 2, it will be seen that a place such as 6 may be secured as shown provided with the rounded extending end 7 and providing a support for the upper extending T-guide 8 which is pivotally secured in the plate 6 so as to facilitate the turning thereof. 9 indicates a pin projecting downwardly from the frame in the path of the rounded projecting end 7 so that as the partition is drawn outwardly, that is to say, rightwardly looking at Fig. 1, the rounded end 7 engages the pin 9 and causes'the section to come substantially in alinement with the guides such as 1011 before the section is able to pass beyond the pin, thus insuring the alinement of each section as the partition is opened out and preventing jamming.
At the bottom of the partition is also preferably provided a plate such as 12, shown to better advantage in Fig. 3, and the same is preferably provided with a projecting end 13 serving a purpose similar to the projectmg part 7 of the plate 6, said projecting end 13 engaging pins such as 14 at the bottom of the frame to insure the alinement of the sections as the partition is opened out.
Of course it will be understood that changes may be made in the details and construction of parts.
I claim:
In combination With'a section of a folding partition, a member extending beyond the upper edge of said section, said member providing support for the top guide of said partition, and a pin projecting frpm the frame of said partition adapted to "engage said projecting member, whereby said section is brought into alinement with the frame of said partition as said partition is opened.
Intestiniony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
ALBERT J. HIGSON.
Witnesses E'rHnL GARDNER, THOMAS A. HILL.
