Description

UNITED STATES.
PATENT OEEIGE.
THOMAS BUR-KE FOGARTY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y. p
IMPROVEMENT IN (ASfBUl-NERSl Specification formingpart of Letters Patent No. 135,979, dated February 18, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs BURKE` Fo 4 GARTY, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful ImprovementJ in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification:
N atmc and Object of the I mention.
Description of the Drawing.
To enable others skilled in the arts to which it appertains to make and use my invention, .l will proceed to describe its construction and operation with reference to the drawing.
Figures 1 and 2 are longitudinal sections of a gas-burner made according to my invention, and the smaller figures are transverse sections made, respectively, on the dot-ted lines through their centers. v y Y The burner tube or barrel a, which screws upon the gas-pipe, is made with an internal flange, b, through which is drilled a series of holes that correspond in position wit-ha similar series of holes in the flange c of the nib d. The tip or nib has a spur, c, that projects through a slot in the barrel of the burner, by which itmay be moved radially to afford a free passage for the gas through the holes; or it may be moved to 'close the holes entirely, or regulated at any intermediate point to adjust the iiow of gas through them, as may bc required to feed the iiame after being diffused through the annular opening that surrounds the ame.
The tip may be of lava, cement, vor any other material that admits of its being moved slightly to adj ust a series of openings at its base. The ange on the tip must close the slot in which the spur works to prevent the admissionv of air. By this arrangement the supplementary supply of gas may be adj usted without appreciably affecting the position of the iiam'e.
. Claim.
I Vclaim as my invention- The interior movable tip d with perforated collar c resting upon the perforated ledge of the casing, when the parts are combined to operate in the manner set forth.
THOS. B. FOGARTY.
