IRONING BOARD.
A PPLICATION FILED JAN.20, I920.
Patented N0V 23, 1920.
2 SHEETS-SHEET 2- struck down depressions, which depressions are struck down to such an extent that the arms 20 of clamplng members 21 will pass over the struck down portions 22 and beyond said portions 22 so that their ends 23 will engage under the plate 19. h/Iembers 21 are provided with downwardly extending offset portions 24,. which portions adjacent their endsareprovided with transversely disposed ribs 25 adapted to engage the under face of a supporting table 26. Ribs 25 are spaced inwardly of the end 27 of the ironing board so that said end will in conjunction with the clamping members 21 form a clamp between which clamp the edge of the table 26 is clamped. Passing through the ironingboard and also through the clamping members 21 are vertically disposed bolts 28, the lower ends of which bolts 7 are provided with butterfly nuts 29' by means of which the clamping members 21 and the ironin board may be securely clamped on a table. Clamping members 21 however are provided with outwardly extending lugsBO, which lugs may be utilized for clamping the end of the board to spaced members, one of which is located on each side of the ironing board.
A small boardfil is disposed above the ironing board 1 and ,is supported on a bracket 31. Theilower end of the bracket l 'when in supported position is passed through an aperture 32 in the ironing 7 board and has its right angle portion 33 in wherein the use of agreat number of bolts is obviated. It will also be. seen that the clamping members 21 only require two boltsand that their clamping action will be positive. By providing the lug 38 on the bracket :31 it will be seen that during an ironing operation that the strain will be thrown on the metallic member 19 adjacent the rigid supporting point of the main ironing board,
thereby obviating wabbling and at the same time eliminating securii'ig means for the bracket 31 which would have to be unfastened or loosened to remove the small board, it only being necessary when it isjdesired to remove the small board to raise the bracketBl' out of the aperture 32.
The invention having been set forth what is claimed as new and useful 1s r The combination with an ironingboard,
of a supporting leg therefor, said leg be mg pivoted to the underside of the board and provided with an elongated aperture adjacent its pivotal point, an extension member carried by said leg, a spring actu ated arm pivoted to the under side of the ironing board and having its free end disposed in the aperture of the leg, said free j end of the arm being provided with a notch spaced from the end thereof, a pin extending through the pivoted leg and the upper I end of the elongated aperture, said pin being received by the notch in the pivoted arm when the supporting leg is in vertical position, the portion of the pivoted arm 'be-.
tween the notch and the free end of thearm being o't suihcient length to engage the side of the leg when it is folded in thedirection I r of the end of the board for holding said leg against the board in collapsed position, a leaf spring secured to the board adjacent the pivotal point of the arm and'to the lever for normally forcing said lever upwardly, the free end of theleaf spring be-- ing in engagement with the side ofthe arm, thereby allowing the supporting leg to 'be collapsed in the opposite direction and held 7 in collapsed position.
