PATENT OFFICE.
PETER L. FORTIN, OF LYNN, MASSACHUSETTS.
STOCKING-PROTECTOR.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 19, 1920.
Application filed June 7, 1919. Serial No. 302,513.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, PETER L. FORTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lynn, in the county of'Essek and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stocking-Protectors of which the following is a specification. I
My invention relates to improvements in stocking protectors which are intended to be placed inside the ,heel
The device is intended to eliminate the friction and wear of stockings, which have heretofore been experienced by wearers of shoes. I am'aware that stocking protectors have heretofore been used, but the theory upon which they have been manufactured and sold is the theory that they should be made ofa rough and tenacious substance which adheres closely to the stocking in wear, and thus throughout the various views of the draw tends to eliminate friction. My device is intended to be non-frictional in its effect, so that the stocking heel may have unrestricted action in the movementsof the foot when,
walking.
The objects of my invention are:
1. To. avoid friction between the stocking and heel or counter-pocket of the shoe.
2. To provide a stocking protector to be worn within shoes, havingmeans thereon for securely fastening it to the'shoe proper.
3. To avoid the usual and customary wear upon the heel of the stocking in walking, and to provide other benefits and results, some of which may be mentioned hereinafter.
I attain the object of my invention, as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1. shows my device as it is cut from thematerial from which it is made and before being molded into shape.
Fig. 2 shows my completed device, after being molded into its normal position.
Similar letters refer to similar parts Iteferring to Fig. i, A shows the bodyportion of my device, B and iC show projecting lips at the lower extremltles'of the body portion A. D likewise shows a lip portion extending from the lower body portion A midway between its lower extremitie's. The holding lips B, C and D are intended to fit down under the inner sole of the shoe, so as to, when so located, securely hold the stocking rotector in its proper position-within the s 0e. 7
In use, my device has demonstrated 100% eficiency in saving wear to the stocking,
Whlch is ordinarily incidental to walking or other foot exercise.
. I prefer to manufacture my device from sheetTzelluloid or other suitable non-friction material, against which the stocking may have free action without unnecessary wear.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent of the United States:
' 1. -A stocking protector of sheetcelluloid,
intended to be used-in shoes, having means thereon for securely fastening it to the interior of said shoes, all substantially as described and for the reasons specified.
2. A stocking protector of non-friction material, intended to be used in shoes, having means thereon for securely fastening it to the interior of said shoes, all substantially as described and for the reasons specified.
3. A stocking protector of sheet celluloid, intended to be used in shoes, having means at the bottom thereof for securely fastening said stocking protector to the interior of the shoes in which it is intended to be used, all
substantially as described and for the reasons s ecified.
4;. stocking protector of non-friction material, intended to be used in shoes, having means at the bottom thereof for securely fastening said stocking protector to the interior of the shoes in which it is intended to be used, all substantially as described and for the reasons specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
H PETER Li. ron'rin.
.Witnesses: CEARLEs W. LOVETT, A. Gnn'rnnna JoHNson'.
