Be it known that l, FREDERICK Horai- DAsZKa, a citizen of luthenia, residingat Cobalt, Province of ntario, and Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Cradles, of which the following'is a specification.
|This invention relates to an infants cradle and it has for a general object to provide a novel and improved cradle which may be given a rockingmotion or a vibrating motion as may be desired.
@ther objects relate to the particular arrangement and mounting of the cradle for rocking purposes.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claim in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a side view of an infants cradle constructed according to my invention.

its here shown my improved cradle is mounted in a frame consisting` of the side base-boards 10, end walls 11, and top plate 12. Located in this frameis a vertically movable rectangular flooring 13 which is of a size to lit snugly between the end walls and base-boards and which is supported a short distance above the bottom of the frame. This flooring is supported on a pair of longi tudinal bars 1e to which it is secured as by the brackets 15 the ends of these bars projecting throughapertures 1G in the end walls 11, and being connected to the lower ends of bails 17' the upper ends of which are suspended on the ends of a third bar 18 extending lengthwise of the cradle close under the top plate 12, this bar18 extending through vertical slots 19 in the ene walls 11. This bar 18 is suspended from a pair of rods 20 which pass freely upwardly through suitable apertures in the top plate 12 and have disks 21 fixed on their upper ends, compression springs 22 bearing between the disks and the top plate 12, these springs being surrounded by sleeves 23 fixed on the topplate 12 and forming guide bearings for the Specification of Letters Patent.

The cradle proper, or cradle body, is shown at 25 and is of the usual shape. I preferably provide for the mechanical rocking of this cradle body and to this end it has fixed to the under side thereof a pair of transverse cleats 26 through which passes centrally a longitudinal shaft 27, the ends of this shaft passing through vertical slots 28 in the end walls 11 and being journaled in plates 29 slit able upon the outer faces of the end walls 11, against which they are held by the vertical guide strips 30 fixed to the end walls and engaging the side edges of the plates. rl`hese plates are fixed-at their lower ends to the flooring 13, and it will thus be obvious that the shaft 2T, and with it the cradle 25 will move vertically with the flooring 13.
Pivotally connected to opposite ends of the cleats 26 are a. pair of rigid links 32 which extend diagonally downwardly and across the median line of the cradle and are connected at their lower ends to crank memers 33 on a longitudinal shaft 34 which extends at its ends through the aperture 16 in the end walls and is journaled in the plates 29. lt is to be noted that the crank members 33 are relatively short in comparison to the distance from the shaft 27 to the ends of the cleats 26 so that a. rotation of the lower shaft 34 will impart a rocking or oscillating motion to the cradle on the upper shaft 2?. The shaft 34 may be rotated by means of a train of gears 35 located in a casing 36 on one of the end plates 29, one end of this train connecting to the end of the shaft 3e and the other end to a clockspring shaft 38 rotatable in a well known manner by a spring 39, this shaft being wound by a handle d0 the usual pawl and ratchet device 11 being provided.
It is believed the manner of operation and use of my improved cradle will be apparent from the foregoing` description, it being apparent that the cradle body 25 and all its operating parts are carried on the movable flooring 13 which is suspended from the springs 22, so that the cradle may be either rocked on the shaft 27 or vibrated by hand, or a combination of such movements imparted to the cradle at the same time. Ylt will also be apparent that the cradle may be relieving the person in charge of the infantl from eXtra care.
