To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, CHRISTOPHER TREA- NoR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, `in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented Vnew and useful Improvements 'in Street-Indica-- tors, of which the following is a specifica tion.

My invention relates to street indicators particularly adapted for use by street car companies, for indicating points along a cars route, such as streets or stations, to be reached by the car-at certain pre-arranged periods of time, and in which a watch or like instrument for measuring timeis used coperatively with a movable chart.

An object of the present inventionV is to provide a street indicator adapted tov be installed upon a street railway car, or be car ried upon the person of the operator of the car, embodying a case in which is Y.disposed a chart ribbon windable from one reel onto another. The ribbon being spaced into sections, each section provided with a circular opening having upon its margin characters representing the names of the streets or stationsalong the cars route, coperating with a watch or like time-piece carried in the case. The arrangement being such that the hands of the watch will indicate upon the chart the name of the street or station that it may be desired to be reached by the car at a given time.

Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.

It is intended that changes in the precise embodiment'of the invention as shown and described may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Referring to the drawings in detail, throughout which like reference numerals indicate like parts,`

i The numeral 1 designates a case embodying a front wall 2 provided with a circular opening 3, a rear wall 4, atop 5, and a bottom 6.

T he rear wall 41 is indented so as to form an interior concaved portion 7 conforming with the contour of the back of a watch 8, which is provided with a common circular clock dial 9, the margin of which being divided into twelve equal parts or spaces indicated on the dial by the numerals 1 to 12 inclusive, and an hour hand 10 and minute hand 11. One revolution of the hour hand 10 around the dial 9 representing twelve hours of time, and one revolution of the minute hand 11 about the face of the dial representing one hour of time.

The watch 8 is adapted to be disposed in the case 1 and arranged therein in such a manner that the dial 9 will be Opposite thel opening 3 and its stem will project upwardly through aiiopening 12 in the top wall 5 etV the case.

13, 13, designate a pair of reels carried in the case 1 and disposed one on each-side of the watch 8. Said reels provided with upper reduced ends 14, rotatable infopenings 16 in the top wall 5, and reduced ends 17 rotatable in openings 18 in the bottom wall 6 of the case 1.

The free ends of the reduced upper ends 14 are provided with bosses 19 adapted to be engaged by the operator for rotating the reels in either direction.

kTo the reels 13, 13, are secured the ends` of a chart ribbon 20, which ribbon is considerably longer than the case 1, and is windable from one reel onto another by turning the bosses to rotate the reels in the proper direction.

The ribbon 20 is provided with a number of circular openings, upon the margin of each of said openings is indicated the naines or titles of the streets and stations along the cars route that it is desired to have the car arrive at, at a certain period of time. A portion of the ribbon and openings only being shown in the drawings.

Up'on the return trip of thecar overthe same route as when out-going, the operator would rotate the proper reel to move the .rib-k f bon 2O from left to right across the face of the clock until the opening 22 came opposite the dial 9, and assumingthat the car started upon itsV return trip'immediately upon its arrival at the Vend of its route, and

that it traveled at the same rate `of speed on'its return trip as when out-going, then at fifteen minutes past thev hour the minute hand 11 would point to 72nd street, at thirty minutes after Vthe hour to 48th street, at forty-five minutes after the hour to 24th street, and fifteen minutes thereafter toA car barn, whichwould be the end of the return trip. Y Y d In Fig. '3 of the drawings, the opening 21 Y when moved into position to registerl with the dial 9, wouldindicate that the car was intended to leave the car'barn at ten minutes after the hour, and arrive at 24thV street at' twenty-.five'minutes after the hour.

It is-to Ybe understood that any desired number vof streets, stations, or the like, may bev indicated upon the margin of the openings in "'th'ej ribbon, the (names of said streets or -stationsto'-V be indicated on the Y margin of the opening tor'eg-'i'ster with the time indications on the clocks dial to correspond with the period of time that it is desired to reach said streets or station.

Having described my invention, l claim: l. ln a street indicator of the class described, the combination with a case having an opening in its front wall and a clock carried in the case with its dial in axial alinement with said opening, of a pair of vertically disposed reels carried inside the case and disposed onejon', each side of the clock, and aribbon disposed between the dial of the clock and said front wall, the ribbon being windable from one lof said reels onto theL other thereof and provided with aV plurality of circular, openings extending through from one side to the other, and

means for rotating said reels for movingsaid ribbon: across said dial so that one of said last named openings may be brought Vinto axial alinement with said dial and said first named opening. Y,

A` device of the character described, comprising aV case Vhaving a slot in its upper endthrough which is adapted to project the winding member of a time-piece, a circular -opening inthe front wall of the case,'said opening inV axial alinement with the dial of said vtime-piece, a vertically disposed spool rotatably fitted in eachY end of the case, a flexible ribbon having its free endsjsecured to said spools and so arranged relativey thereto sothat the surplus of the ribbon may be wound from one of the spools onto the other, said ribbon-provided with a plurality of-circular openings spaced apart along the face of the ribbon, each of said openings providedv around its margin with characters indicative of stops along the cars route, said characters yadapted to be co-rea'dable with the hands of the timepiece.

The combination withl a watch-like time-piece having a winding-stem projecting upwardly from one edge, of a case for inclosing saidtime-piece, thecase having an opening in its upper end through which is adapted to project said winding stem, a circular opening in'the'front'wall of the case in axial alinement with the axisv of the dial ofsaid time-piece,7 a pair of rotatable spools Vvertically disposed inside the case one on each side of the timepiece, a projection on the upper end of each of said spools extending out'through the upper end of theV case andV adapted to be engaged bythe operator for rotating the spools," a comparatively long fiexible ribbon, one end of said'ribbon secured to one of the spools and the other `end thereof secured to the other of the spools, an intermediate portion of the ribbon windable from one of said spools onto the other thereof, said ribbon provided with a plurality of circular openings, said openings spa'ced equal distances apart along the ribbon and eachprovided around its margin Y with car-stop indicating characters readable With the time indicating characters on the dial of said time-piece, the arrangement of ribbon being such that by rotating one of said spools in the proper direction the ribbon may be caused to move horizontally across the face of the time-piece so that either one of said last named openings may be brought into axial alinement with the axis of the dial of the time-piece and the front opening the case.
